Ben's partner is Finnish so Moomin is definitely on his radar! Though you are correct that its too late for the podcast - the edit is just about done so it'll be out soon.

Great minds, as they say!

You and us, that is. We would never suggest Boris Johnson had a great mind.

Life has found a way…to disrupt production of our next episode. We must regretfully push it to April.

But we won’t leave you empty-eared! For International Women’s Day, we’d love to share your recommendations of female authors for Pratchett fans!

Diana Wynn Jones, Ursula Le Guin…who else?

cover of Disc Coverers ep 36: MAKING MONEY. It's our man Moist Von Lipwig, wearing his sparkly golden hat, excited to tell everyone about his new concepts for money. With paper bills, Ankh-Morporkians should be able to carry and use far more than previous. Loads, even.

If you have the game files, there are fan patches that will help it run, though it’s not perfect! Ben has got it working on a Windows 10 computer that’s about a decade old.

#Pratchat92 – Sand of the Scrounge Wizard Writer and game designer Kat Clay joins Liz and Ben to point and click on Rincewind once more, as we discuss the 1996 graphic adventure game Discworld 2: Missing, Presumed...!? from Perfect Entertainment. When the wizard Windle Poons dies, no-one comes to collect his soul - and this isn’t the first time Death has been derelict in his duty. Something must be done, and the Archchancellor knows just the man for the job: so-called wizard and veteran videogame protagonist, Rincewind!

Death has...gone. People have stopped dying - but they don’t just keep living, either. Someone needs to find Death and get him back to work, and that someone is you! Except you’re Rincewind. Again. (Sorry.)

It’s nearly time to record our next episode, #Pratchat92, about the 1996 videogame, Discworld II: Missing, Presumed…!?

Can Rincewind solve the mystery of why people aren’t dying properly?

Thanks for the response - we found it there too, thanks to Old Dickens of the L-Space wiki. There’s a brief mention also in The Compleat Ankh-Morpork.

That’s the trade paperback then. Does it have the “Where am I?” Introduction?

3 months ago 0 0 1 0

It seems there was both a paperback and trade paperback edition - and that their contents might not have been the same! More research required. If you’ll indulge Ben: is yours a standard or trade paperback? What’s the page count?

3 months ago 0 0 1 0

Although…1993? That’s before the original Companion in 1995! Are you sure that’s right?

3 months ago 0 0 1 0

Huh! Thanks for passing that on - this isn’t what the evidence Ben found had to say! But this is why it’s important to go to the source.

#Pratchat91 – We Can Reference It For You Wholesale Liz and Ben do a little light Summer reading as they tackle one of the biggest Discworld books of all - Terry Pratchett and Stephen Briggs’ The Discworld Companion, in all its various editions (but mostly 2021’s The Ultimate Discworld Companion). From the Abbott of the History Monks, to dimensionally-displaced traveller Jack Zweiblumen, the Discworld Companion is an alphabetical encyclopaedia of everything Discworld!

When is an encyclopaedia not an encyclopaedia? Maybe when everything in it is made up…

Liz and Ben discuss The #Discworld Companion in its various forms, but mostly the current edition, The Ultimate Discworld Companion, from Terry Pratchett and Stephen Briggs. #Pratchat91 (optional)

Turtle Recall, a larger hardcover with a larger illustration by Marc Simonetti of various Discworld characters; and

The Ultimate Discworld Companion, a trade paperback with an illustration by Paul Kidby of the Librarian with a lantern in the library.

Comfort Blanket (hosted by @gralefrit.bsky.social), specifically the Count Duckula episode.
@xplainthexmen.bsky.social, specifically episode 507 which has Hogfather info.

Something about the train being safer or faster, perhaps? We thought it was mentioned briefly, but we can’t find it now, so perhaps we imagined it!

They’d also need a small fleet of brooms to take the loyal dwarfs as well as the Low King.

We’ll try and do some comparison for sure. Ben has four versions: the updated edition of the original, Turtle Recall and both versions of the Ultimate one. But not the New Companion (which is from between the updated original and Turtle Recall.)

#Pratchat90 – Mind the Ginnungagap Psychologist Craig Hildebrand-Burke rejoins Liz and Ben as we don our flat caps and anoraks, as we make sense of Terry Pratchett's penultimate Discworld novel, 2013's Raising Steam. Dick Simnel has created Iron Girder, the Disc's first steam engine - and he's brought it to Ankh-Morpork seeking an investor. He finds one in Sir Harry King, who is keen to be known as the King of something other than what brought him his wealth.

Is that a steam train - in Ankh-Morpork? Psychologist Craig Hildebrand-Burke joins Liz and Ben to put on our anoraks and write "40" in our notebooks for a gradely discussion of #TerryPratchett's penultimate #Discworld novel: Raising Steam! #Pratchat90
