NEW | Solar power surge in 2025 stalls rise in fossil electricity worldwide ⚡📈
Clean power growth outpaced global electricity demand last year – with solar alone supplying THREE-QUARTERS of the increase in demand ☀️
ember-energy.org/lat...
Solar globally skyrocketed 29% in 2025!
Solar up ~600 TWh, the most ever in one year of any generation source, outside of rebound years.
All RE up 8.5%. Now 34% of total power.
Nuclear up 1.2%.
Wind additions rose 40% to record 160 GW in 2025!

Good morning with good news: Global wind installations surged 40% to record-high 164.5 GW in 2025!
Global wind output in February 2026 was 245 TWh, up 14% from 215 TWh in 2/2025.
Wind output rose 123% since February 2019.

As WindWaterSolar continues to displace fossils on CA's main grid, what is clear is that fossils are a temporary convenience, not a necessity.
Fossil gas down 60% in 2026 v 2023.
19 straight and 85 out of 109 (78%) days in 2026 with WWS meeting >100% of demand for part of the day.
~10–12 nuclear power plants equivalent. That’s what batteries just delivered for ~1–2 hours at peak in California.
We’ve crossed the line: generation → timing.
Gas loses the peak first. Then revenue. Then relevance.
Nuclear is great. But time costs money. Energy is needed now, not in 15 years.
In China battery electric trucks and hybrid trucks now outsell diesel trucks for the first time.
NEW PODCAST: Electricity is just 20% of global energy. The other 80% (heating, transport, industry) still runs on fossil fuels. Full electrification could cut total energy demand in half. More in my conversation with @bobbyllew.bsky.social of Everything Electric Show

NEW | Record exports of solar, batteries and EVs last month 📈
China’s exports for the ‘new three’ industries reached a record high of $21.9bn in March 2026, up 70% year-on-year, in the wake of the US-Israel war with Iran and changing export rebates for solar and batteries.
New England just turned on its biggest battery yet — but don’t expect this array to hold the record for long.

Good morning with good news: Solar globally grew by 600 TWh in 2025, largest ever rise from any source, excl rebound yrs.
RE & nuclear growth was more than total electricity demand growth.
Fossil fuel generation DECLINED!
RE = coal generation!

Global EV Sales UP 20% in 2025!
25% of cars sold were EV in 2025!
21 million EVs sold in 2025!
Sales of EV heavy trucks tripled to 200,000.
EV sales up 30% in Europe.
EV sales up 80% in "Rest of World"...outside China, US and Europe.

Nevada's largest utility says it will need three times the electricity required to power Las Vegas just to handle proposed data centers — and it probably can't do that without fossil fuels.

In just over a decade, Chile went from no utility-scale wind or solar at all to having more electricity from these sources than from all fossil fuels combined:
In 2000, wind+solar provided 0% of Chile's electricity, fossil fuels 45%.By 2025, wind+solar had risen to 36%, fossil fuels fallen to 28%.
China's electrification bet is paying off. Electricity now accounts for 30% of its energy consumption - 50% higher than the US or Europe.
With 1/3 of global renewable energy capacity already installed, China is structurally more insulated from rising oil prices than most Western economies.
HUGE!
China will DOUBLE its non-fossil fuel energy (not just power) supply by 2035!
China's 2025 electricity was ~42% non-fossil fuel or about 4,000TWh.
Given demand growth, doubling clean generation output would raise its share to ~66% by 2035. HUGE!

China's March 2026 exports:
Solar cells up 80%
EVs up 53%
Lithium-ion batteries up 34%
Electricity substitutes for fossil fuels are surging.
China, an Electrostate, competes against the Petrostates that include Russia, Saudi Arabia and Iran.

New metric shows renewables are 53% cheaper than nuclear power www.pv-magazine.com/2026/04/17/n... @nduic.bsky.social @brianvad.bsky.social @profstrachan.bsky.social @michael-sterner.bsky.social @jeroahola.bsky.social @drpauldorfman.bsky.social @aukehoekstra.bsky.social @mzjacobson.bsky.social
Fossil gas use 60% lower in 2026 than in 2023 on the CaliforniaI SO grid
83 of 107 (78%) days and 17 straight in 2026 with WWS meeting >100% of demand for an average of 4 hr every day this year
51% of all demand met by WWS in 2026, 3x that of gas
Batteries up 324% and solar up 69% in 2026 v 2023
Came across someone sharing one of my charts today calling it:
“Strait of Batteries: the most important chart in energy.”
The old world ran through the Strait of Hormuz.
The new one runs through this chart.
Costs down
Storage up
Energy is shifting from geopolitics to physics.
Heat pump orders up 2x in a month. Solar panel inquiries up 250%. EV leases up 85%.
The Iran crisis has made energy security feel personal.
I understand why: I have solar panels, a heat pump & EV on a flexible tariff. When gas prices spike, my bills barely move.

Vermont’s first neighborhood geothermal project just broke ground. Soon, it’ll be heating and cooling a 36-unit development.
So short sighted!
From April 2025 to 2026, CAISO installed
4.656 GW batteries
1.534 GW solar
0.308 GW wind
bringing totals to
16.04 GW/64.16 GWh batt
22.577 GW solar
8.681 GW wind
CAISO queue is
17.1 GW batt
19 GW sol
0.8 GW wind
0 bio, gas, nuc
This is why WWS will ultimately supply 100% of demand 24/7/365
EU Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra is being refreshingly blunt: there is “no workaround” for Europe’s energy price crisis.
Hoekstra’s message? The only way out is through: more electrification, more solar, more wind, more storage, more grid interconnection — and all of it faster.
Good morning with good news: Denmark, France and Norway were 92%, 95% and 99% respectively non-fossil fuel electricity in 2025!
Denmark was 73.5% wind (59.5%) & solar (14%).
France was 67.5% nuclear.
Norway was 89.9% hydro.
World now can end fossil-fuel electricity!

First power delivered from USA's largest offshore wind farm--2.6 GW off Virginia.
Trump's tariffs and order to stop construction raised costs by $808 million!
Federal courts threw out the illegal order, but it caused months of delay.

Volvo just dropped a ~700km electric truck into the mix.
~44t GCW
~28t payload
~650hp
~700kWh battery
~A$450k upfront
....but ~$1.7–2M cheaper to run over 10 yrs.
Add Tesla + Windrose + BYD, & fleets now have more choice.
Diesel just lost another lane.⚡🚛 #Bettrification
