Do I ever know this feeling!

There's a strange feeling watching a movie or reading a book for the 2nd time, a decade or more after the first time, and interpreting the story differently now, and realizing that the movie or book hasn't changed, but you did. Probably have a word for it in German.

Immigration rules changed in the mid 1960s, allowing many more immigrants from non-European countries, so I'm guessing that's at least part of his picking that date.

Current status: waiting for OTC pain meds to kick in so I can go shovel the latest round of snow.

Not touching the stress headache yet but hoping the hips/lower back pain my insurance company keeps denying treatments for might ache a bit less...

But a DOGE-induced lay-off, medical bills, and car issues <denied warranty claim> have changed that.

The constant rejection that come from job-hunting isn't helping my mental state, either.

I often joke that the world would run much better if librarians, nurses, and first grade teachers ran it ~ but 3rd grade room/Cub Scout den mothers, knitters, the waitresses at my favorite diner, and Romancelandians aren't far behind πŸ€“πŸ˜œ

I more several times amazed friends how much I could actually get into a 2008 Camry. That car was a pain to park <edges curved enough I couldn't see the corners> but the trunk was huge for the size of the car and well shaped for a sedan trunk.

Got a couple booster vaccines on Wednesday for shots from my childhood that may have lost their efficacy.

Yup, I reacted to them ~ I always do. Finally beginning to feel less inert after 36 hours.

But so much better than getting measles or the other ickiness they protect against.

I don't believe in magic, but the Crock-Pot is the closest thing we have to it. You throw in meat, veggies, herbs, and some type of liquid, turn it on, and when you come back eight or more hours later, beautiful things happen.

He does buy that land from a cousin, who owns the land again a few years later so my current idea <subject to finding more details> is that he bought from the cousin to help hom out of a financial bind and then sold it back after the crisis for the cousin was over.

Or a several greats grandfather documented ~ census, children's births/deaths, city directories, newspaper stories/ads, and more ~ to have spent his entire adult life in Salem MA buying land in Warren ME in 1830, a year when he appears in several Salem records.
It's a big puzzle...

Painsomnia is a thing. Delayed sleep phase disorder exists. Together, they make life frustrating.
Tried to fall asleep for 4 hours. Now it's 3 a.m. and I'm still wide awake and achy.
Think I may turn the light on and read for a bit. Won't help with sleep but might help me relax.

Personally I just really love reading.

But I also adore libraries so go to your library this new year. They have all the books, you can request books and they nearly all have a online service for e books these days. #Libraries2026
