I built a Quarto extension that adds accessibility features to Reveal.js presentations: keyboard nav, screen reader support, dyslexia-friendly fonts, high contrast, slide change visual/audio cue and more.
Feedback more than welcome.

Morning #UKSG2026 plenary about the Big 5 negotiations. I would love to see Jisc’s energies going into supporting collective funding and community-based publishing alternatives, alongside (preferably instead of!) inequitable negotiations with commercial behemoths.
But that’s just me. 🤷♀️
Listening to Jonathan Gray set the scene with a pretty clear argument:
“In practice research needs to be messy and heterogeneous...because that is the way it—research—actually is. And also, and more importantly, it needs to be messy because that is the way the largest part of the world is: messy, unknowable in a regular and routinized way.”

As we have repeatedly tried to explain to a government intent on punishing universities, graduate outcomes will always be poor if you underpay every sector. (Nb y axis starting at 50)
@jburnmurdoch.ft.com, along with @sarahoconnorft.ft.com, has been doing some of the best work on graduate labour market woes. In this excellent piece, he underscores that erosion of the graduate premium in the UK is more down to weak productivity than HE intake or financing. 1/2
Jay (first author of our Sullivan Review paper) in their thread discusses one of the lesser known parts of the Review:
its offensive against established principles surrounding ethical review, research governance, and community involvement

Jay Todd @jaytoddgla.bsky.social and I have published today in @tibg.bsky.social a critical response to the UK Government-commissioned "Sullivan Review" of sex and gender in data and research collection

Graphic reading 'the UK Government-commissioned 'Sullivan Review' of sex and gender in data and research collection threatens British research and trans inclusion. Here's why.'
📣 Today @felicitycallard.bsky.social and I have published the first peer-reviewed response to the 'Sullivan Review' of research and data on sex and gender.

The Review could threaten trans rights and inclusion, erode academic freedom, and undermine research quality.
Very excited to be able to share this for the first time!!!
So amazing to have been part the Atlas of Finance team and to have been at the @bcsmaps.bsky.social award ceremony today - with a special private viewing of some the treasures from the @bodleian.ox.ac.uk vast map collection!!!
I am genuinely baffled and distressed as to why the UK government is intent on destroying UK's genuinely world-leading universities, who bring £265 billion into the economy and support more than 250,000 jobs.
This tax will kill us.

Starmer's appointment of Minouch shows he understands exactly what the economy needs (more bashing LGBTQ rights and violently suppressing the peaceful protest of a genocide).
“Even the term 'Artificial Intelligence' … is widely misused, with conceptual unclarity coopted to advance industry agendas and undermine scholarly discussions. It is our task to demystify and to challenge 'AI' in our teaching, research & engagement with society.” openletter.earth/open-letter-...

The proposed policy is abominable, and something we oppose in its entirety. The University's knee-jerk reaction has caused immense stress to trans colleagues and the University's 'apology' does not go nearly far enough in expressing a commitment to being a safe employer for Trans comrades.
Now I see why none of the recycled press releases masquerading as journalism included a map!
Then it would have to be admitted that the courses you take at *oxbridge* and the books you read are much the same at many other universities and this is of course the most politically unpalatable option possible for oxbridge all the educated mps and journalist...
Lib dems demand someone who should be irrelevant ask someone no one should have to care about to correct something which should never have happened makes 2017 sound unfortunately prescient

And of course with such 'a small pool' of talent there's no chance of reviewers giving quid pro quo scores to applications they could reasonably identify...
I imagined something really really bad.
It’s much, much worse
