Q: Why is National @apnews.com carrying water for @GinoBulso & Tennessee Republicans by framing their “Charlie Kirk Act” as a bill that “promotes free speech” when @penamerica.bsky.social rightly warned it does the exact opposite? 🤔🤷🏼

Why should students enroll in a system that blatantly throttles academic inquiry. While I disagree with the framework for reducing/eliminating programs, what is profoundly troubling is ruling some areas of inquiry as legitimate and others as forbidden.

Dr. Gee puts the F in former for sure. It's been a minute or two, and his last few decades in higher ed were a decidedly mixed bag. All that and overy simplistic analysis of a complex problem. There are so many bright contemporary scholars and leaders who might have served as sources.
NYT firing miss after miss in its higher education coverage/takes this week.
It’s worth watching the entire video. I had blocked her many years ago at the old place, but she’s spilling the beans now and detailing how oligarchs and corporations pay right-wing influencers under the table. There need to be hearings about this and the huge loopholes permanently closed.
No taxation but they have all the representation.
It is puzzling that a report from a Yale committee is receiving so much attention given Yale's relative isolation and lack of impact/import in contemporary American higher education.
Remembering McKinley Morganfield, the legendary Muddy Waters, on his heavenly birthday.

History will not be kind to those who quickly dropped to their knees to kiss the shriveled jewels of the orange-toned false prophet.
The University of Arizona was a great place to be a doc student studying higher education. I'm quick to teasingly call it the one true university in Arizona. Today that joke rings hollow. Shame on its president and its board for this failure in leadership.

Wishing the University of Mississippi women's basketball team success and a great experience in the NCAA tournament!
Congrats to Amanda Brozana on successfully defending her dissertation centering on choices rural college students make about returning home after graduation. Thanks to Drs. Nylander, Webb, and Willis for serving on her committee, and thanks to her family, friends, and colleagues for their support.
While I am troubled by his admission of submitting a bill on a topic he (or his staff) had not thoroughly researched, it is encouraging to see a state legislator who is willing to listen to feedback and to move away from a harmful initiative.

Remembering Willie Dixon who walked on 34 years ago. Was lucky enough to get to know him and benefit from his wisdom.

Special shout out to all the artists (all forms and genres) around the world who are using their talents to entertain, encourage, validate, connect, resist, and inspire. With a nod to PTC, art is good!
Wishing family, friends, colleagues, students, and complete strangers all the best in 2026! Look out for yourselves, one another, and our democracy. Together we can do anything!

Americans have been dragged, tackled, beaten, tased and shot by immigration agents.
They’ve had their necks kneeled on.
They’ve been held outside in the rain while in their underwear.
At least three citizens were pregnant when agents detained them.

A light blue background with the text "World Alzheimer's Day September 21st 2025" in blue font. Below the text, it says, "Today is a global effort to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around Alzheimer's disease and other dementia". A purple ribbon is placed on the lower right side.
💜 This #WorldAlzheimersDay brings new hope: a simple movement test can help doctors distinguish Alzheimer’s from psychiatric conditions in adults 50–70 with 87% accuracy. A step toward earlier, clearer answers for families.
