CD sleeve of the new Julianna Barwick and Mary Lattimore album 'Tragic Magic'.
Picked this up at the brilliant @ravesfromthegrave.bsky.social yesterday. Such beautiful and soothing sounds from two of my favourite female artists, Mary Lattimore & Julianna Barwick. Released on @infinemusic.bsky.social and just in time to play it loud on #InternationalWomensDay
Slow, fuzzy guitars. Piano? Sure. Weird background noise? yes! A little bit of whispery singing? why not.
This was 2001, baby. People could do all those things in 2001.

📯 There are 30 (yes) new Blasting Company songs out now, we worked so so hard on them, we hope you enjoy at least one. They are all different!
Extremely grateful to @avantris.bsky.social for being so kind and for creating such a deep and colorful world to score.

Terry Riley's "In C" is a creative force in contemporary music history, masquerading as a song. Vox made a good podcast episode about it.

Also mentioned in the video, the incomparable Bad Brains, Special Interest (good, modern, punk influenced, seem pretty diverse from track to track), Soul Glo (modern hardcore, aggressive, fun)
This little PBS NewsHour segment on black musicians in Punk was good. The Pure Hell album is awesome. The Death record is good but had more elements of 70s rock and garage rock to my ear. youtu.be/6WXhhqs9JJE?...

Kim Gordon’s reworked version of “Bye Bye” is deadpan funny, writes @skornhaber.bsky.social, and avoids some of the anti-Trump-protest pitfalls:
Kim Gordon: “It occurred to me to use words taken from a site that had all the words that Trump has essentially banned, meaning any grant or piece of a project or proposal for research that includes any of those words would be immediately disregarded.”

That Four Tet album still rips today like the day it was pressed. Clear winner among decent picks.
It certainly explains the new track, which is good, but i couldn't tell until before it wasn't a sort of white flag. Love to see a whole record fleshing it out a bit more.

This 5-minute CBC interview with Propagandhi was pretty interesting to me, even if it's a bit more quotidian than their old interviews.

New Tortoise track is nice. Laid-back, repetitive, and about as jazzy as possible without a sax or horn leaking in there. Give it a spin:
