Burn Notice

I’m a school board director and recently asked the question in a public meeting, “How is leadership navigating the tension between standardization and cultural responsiveness?” This question did not seem to be understood, or at least was not answered in a way that suggested understanding to me.
Wrote about this here (I write Neuromess on fb), breaking down my process into phases after a School Board intensive I did at Harvard in 2023. The frame I used was “situational autistic burnout recovery”. tinyurl.com/45hpcsxn
Thank you, Senator Erin Maye Quade.

Two cats, a grey tabby and an orange tabby, sleeping cutely and contentedly on a grey heating pad on a bed.
Also Rocksteady and Fiasco say heating pads mitigate all bad weather.
We contract like 60% of our busing (not ideal, an active target for shifting, complicated). Also cabs etc for HHM students. I’d think transport would be a primary determining factor. Not sure procedure for figuring out if contracted services will run and if that plays in, but now I’m curious.
We usually get notified just before the public (probably minutes when it goes this late) and I keep checking my email. 11:33pm: nothing. I usually get 100s of emails begging for a closure. This snuck up on everybody cuz I got like 8. I don’t make the call though, just contribute to policy.
Resonates. I’ve been a weekly-ish Target shopping my whole life. I guess I’d make a purchase now if it was unavoidable, but I haven’t gotten to a situation where my need outweighs the desire to keep my distance. It’s personal before political. I’m out of love with Target.
I’m a metro BoE director; we met once at an event. This is compelling, AND I need info on the budget, funding, and financial strategies that support this programming. We’ve had to cut interventions, raise class sizes, reduce prog support even as we train teachers in SoR. How does the math math?
Beautiful to read; beautiful to see my doctor’s name among the co-authors.
An image of the Minnesota Capitol that says: BREAKING NEWS Attorney General Ellison sues to end unconstitutional presidential order targeting gender-affirming care Attorney General Ellison argues this order violates the Fifth Amendment’s equal-protection guarantee by singling out transgender individuals for mistreatment and discrimination.
Donald Trump’s executive order targeting gender-affirming care is illegal and deeply hurtful, so I'm suing to end it.
I will not stand by and let Trump weaponize the federal government against young people trying to be themselves and against doctors providing the best care they can.
POV: home with my disabled child looking at my wife's labs as she lays in a hospital bed begging the nurse to get imaging of her chest cuz I’m begging her to beg, & the nurse making excuses to avoid putting in the order all night.
This morning the CT they finally gave her found clots in both lungs.
My thoughts on the new Hechinger Report article re: Inclusion.
“Equal academic performance is not a reasonable goal across Special Education and shouldn’t be the measure of successful inclusion. However, successful inclusion could be a measure of academic integrity.”

Any other autistics just so bored of this vaccine-autism misinformation campaign? Like, this busted ass old thing again? Really?
Include disabled people in your resistance planning. In many ways we’re built for resistance, as we have to find creative and sustainable ways to survive every single day.
This is the time for intersectionality and community care. We need to work together and save one another.
Can we talk about the Grammys a little bit more? Just another day or two, then I’ll get right back to the dystopia doom feed-o-matic, I swear.
Sometimes I write on that other place.
Screen shot of a Hennepin County Library system web page with a purchase request for “The Pedagogy of Pathologization Dis/abled Girls of Color in the School-prison Nexus”.
Requested for purchase. Following your work the last couple years has been such a privilege.
If representation matters, it’s important to see a leader actively, effectively lead in virtual attendance, from bed, with their head propped on a pillow.
When my brain says, ”Leaders don’t look like this”, it’s saying that leaders are not disabled.
I know that’s not true.

Oh my gosh thank you for the reminder to eat! Also yours sounds very tasty.
Heard.
New EO this evening pertaining to K-12 Ed. I have reached out to the Chair of my Board, the office of our Supt, and leadership of our educators’ union. Let’s go.

1. Getting word that we have another anti-trans EO tonight, this time targeting teachers.
It directs the federal government to work with state AGs to put teachers who use trans kids pronouns in jail through "sexual exploitation" laws or "practicing medicine without a license."
From a RW source:
Some are not aware that, in the US at least, behavior modification via physical aversives to attempt to “cure” homosexuality and autism were co-developed at UCLA in the 70s.

Still happening to autistic people in at least one United States facility today.
I don’t know all the details of the litigation over the past years, but this outcome is a heartbreaking atrocity and does not seem to be the will of the majority of this body’s constituency. For shame.

My spouse is one of mine. Yes to all and solidarity.
My 20 year old spent the summer between national conventions and university campuses, and I have no answers for you but I can say I have never been more proud or more terrified that it turns out he was listening all those times I said that for a just cause, put your body on the line.
