They Are Pouring Concrete. We Are Toasting the Cracks. Political momentum "appears" to be moving in one direction. That appearance is exactly what worries me.

Kristin is right. Non-MAGA celebrate visible cracks in political power; MAGA supporters deny and minimize 'problems' while paving over the cracks through damage control. How can we 'use' the Pope moments to widen the cracks ralphrosenberg.substack.com/p/they-are-p...

Trump is not the first President to concentrate power, erode norms, and accountability. The parallel to today’s politics is striking: efforts to reshape institutions, blur truth, and sideline checks and balances—they are recurring tests of democracy. open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

Trump's war on wind power has one very big exception The president's sons are using scarce clean energy to mine for bitcoins.

Hypocrisy is a rampant virus under Trump. Feels like calling out hypocrisy just doesn’t stick on R's. Republicans wear teflon, while Democrats get branded. Social media amplifies every inconsistency. Democrats seem to pay a higher price for it. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

One city’s test to restore faith in the media Bridging the divide one story at a time

I hope she can expand this to how people actually get their news. National trends show most Americans now get news digitally, with over half relying on social media, while smaller shares turn to TV and even fewer to print.

After No Kings: What Comes Next Is the Real Test The march is the signal - but what you do after is what builds power.

Valuable perspective on the "No Kings". We have to be careful; protest rallies or reliance on "bad polls" for Trump or court victories can be deceptive, often breeding complacency or exhaustion when the news cycle shifts. No Kings: What Comes Next Is the Real Test open.substack.com/pub/willrobi...

The Quiet American: How Pope Leo Is Pushing Back Against Trump Can the low-key pontiff from Chicago make a difference in an era of raw power politics?

When Tom Homan dismisses criticism from Pope Leo by attacking the Church, it’s a classic deflection—shift focus, avoid substance. Trump allies do this with discipline; opponents often respond with predictable outrage that plays into it. Opponents need to learn - from DJT

Readers are correctly pointing out that on the one hand ICE are trying to normalize everything (which protestors are not conceding). And the Trump and ICE will settle for Plan B, settle for a civil war.

Slow motion normalization of fascism. Maybe not so slow motion. Minn. residents recognize that one tool they are using are their protestss. And ICE and Trump leaders need to foster this normalization and strike back at us.

This is Trump's playbook. Trump will proactively claim a win. Amanda Carpenter wrote about this technique (she worked for Cruz in 2016 Repub primary). Based on her book, he will claim success and any mistakes or weaknesses will be someone else's.
