As a poli sci point, I think people are starting to realize that the left side of the political spectrum has a coalition problem and largely consists of groups that have deep resentments of each other from 2024.
I don't know if folks are ready to face this reality waiting for them in 2028.

I think this speech was for the members of the base, especially in marginalized communities, who have deep resentment towards leftist & progressives who chose to either protest vote or abstained all together over the objections of those communities while also claiming to be allies. The beef is real
There is a real beef between the base, especially in marginalized communities, and the left right now over the topic of protest voting and abstaining. I think the texas Democratic primary was a sign of things of come.
I think abstention folks have ignored how the Democratic base, especially in marginalized communities, views abstention as subjecting them state-sponsored brutality and the abstainers claimed to be allies yet disregarded pleas from marginalized communities not to abstain. The resentment is real.
When she stopped driving I held my breath.

And @victorerikray.bsky.social for introducing me to liberal currents.
I owe @adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com and @thoughtgenerate.bsky.social a great debt of gratitude as well as @polphilpod.bsky.social whom I discovered via liberal currents.
I have had great difficulty getting outlets to review my first book, given the subject matter being bigotry, and Liberal Currents gave it a good faith critical review.
I know that I'm not alone in the knowledge that this is one of the few outlets where critical conversations are happening everyday
In my interview with the political philosophy podcast, Toby used a phrase that stuck with me: he said that liberals are apocalyptically angry.
I think that's the best description of the current liberal mood and he unpacks it here.
Read this book as an undergrad and it still informs how I understand culture
Don't you have a new book dropping soon?
Perfect victims and the politics of appeal and Strangers in the land come to mind quickly.
Good question.
What should I be reading?
How recent?
An interesting historical what if question:
What if 2016 Bernie Sanders campaigned hard in the South?
How does race and region play into this?
Do you think Whitmer will run for president in 28?
What's your bet on the results, sir?
Killmonger is a colonizer to the extent that he destroys the herb, therefore, destroying Wakanda's primary cultural institution.
The Black Panther literally accuses him of doing exactly what he accuses the colonial powers of doing.
If you accept that for bigots the act of engaging in bigotry is essential to how they understand "good" material conditions and that inflicting harm matters more to them than healthcare, education, and a living wage, what's going on in the culture becomes intelligible, sad, and terrifying.
Perhaps this ideology needs a.... manifesto?
Bigotry loves to cosplay as philosophy.
Replacement Theory is a particularly deranged cosplay that barely hides the true derangement inherent to bigotry.
"apocalyptically angry" is a good description.
Genocide is the most extreme manifestation of bigotry.
The greater evil is the greater evil for a reason.
- Wisdom and warning from marginalized communities across time.
Pulling down Confederate monuments was a form of cultural accountability and the reaction told us a lot about how strongly people will cling to lies rather than face the truth of what the monuments were commemorating.
Bigotry is a hell of a drug.
I also remember, any feel free to correct me if I am wrong here, but wasn't there a lot of issues with the folks running Sanders South Carolina campaign? Wasn't there some tension between the higher-ups and the folks on the ground?
Within the South, South Carolina is a particular beast.
I've always found it. Strange how campaigns think if they do bad there that they somehow can't win places like Louisiana and Mississippi.
