Trump did not announce a U.S. policy then walk it back. That is not what happened, and media presenting it that way does a disservice.
Trump said words he thought might appeal to his audience in the moment, with no connection to actual policy, then did that again with a different question/asker.
This feels right out of a satire film about a totalitarian government. The staging is perfect. The tone is exaggerated and forced, indicating the speaker wants to believe what he’s saying but doesn’t
This is a classic example of someone making an assumption based off little evidence. If they actually listened to Talarico discuss religion in education, they’d understand he’s a proponent of 1A. There’s a difference bt having religious faith guide your governance and creating faith-based laws
