These findings may help to design effective prevention and treatment strategies for suicidality and self harm tailored for those with TBI. We provide specific suggestions for these in our paper (linked above)👆🏻
We also explored coping strategies with participants. Several reported healthy coping strategies such as engaging with health professionals, positive self talk, and family support. Conversely, substance abuse and social withdrawal were raised as unhealthy coping strategies.
🚨 Our new paper exploring suicidality and self harm among individuals with moderate-severe traumatic brain injury. Participants shared factors they perceived as increasing risk (eg. sequelae of the TBI) and attenuating risk (eg. being optimistic, family support). psychiatryonline.org/doi/10.1176/...
