Yeah that's definitely a barrier. I would say that even if you lose any amount of souls they are effectively infinite, and you'll still have your items so don't go popping your souls/blood echoes/runes carelessly. I use them to round up to a level/weapon upgrade. Elden ring for $20 is a safe bet imo

I find it incredible anyone who enjoyed any FromSoft games would have resisted the hype around Elden Ring. I would say it's closer to Dark Souls in gameplay, closer to Bloodborne in how interesting the story is.
