An upcoming publisher closure means that 3 of my books are now currently unavailable. The best way to support me rn is to get Cosmic Dykes or Bound In flesh from ghoulish.rip , lil guts via lil ghosts, or directly thru ko-fi.com/lormaggot đź’–

Infuriating and exhausting. Making indie horror publishing look worse and worse all the time.

Please do not link Third Estate with what is going down with Hedone and Caitlin. Third Estate was a separate entity that was invited to be a part of Dark Lit before controversy started. As soon as there were whisperings of how Marceau was running things, our board made the decision to break away.

Oh trust my eyes are PEELED. Your reverse vampires are CRAZY and I know they’ll find the perfect place to settle. 🥰

The latest Hedone bullshit is exactly the reason orgs like the HWA *should* exist - to let people know about toxic, fraudulent practices in the publishing industry

Writers shouldn't be expected to assume every publisher is a potential embezzler. The onus to investigate should not be on them 🧵

I like to think I know the gossip. I had no clue about this. Everyone get it the fuck together; we *know* this is the weakness of whispering networks

Truly, if you ever get into publishing, do NOT fuck with someone's money. Pay them. Do it. Be prompt.

I’m so so sorry to hear this. It’s frustrating and upsetting—I loved both Sunbathers so so much and that book deserves ALL the recognition. Let me know if you need anything. 🖤

God I’m just so angry. This is the same shit we went through two years ago and the authors all deserve so much better.

If you were personally affected by Hedone Books/Dark Lit Press and CM's latest behavior, I want to talk to you. It can be on background or off the record, but I want to hear your story. DM's are open.

Hedone was run by perpetual non-payer Caitlin Marceau. Avoid this editor when they inevitably launch their next project.

To all Hedone authors affected, you have my sympathies and I’m sorry this is happening to you.

back on BlueSky for the first time in ages to send my love to the queer indie horror whores out there who are affected by the recent and sudden news of Hedone’s closure. If you need someone to talk to, I’ve got you. This is shocking and sad and I know how you feel.

the whole 'red states bad, blue states good' mentality really puts into focus the way some of you people are about entire countries, actually.

and don’t get me wrong I love catering to my players but at this point it’s like they don’t share with each other and just expect me to give them things instead of running with the plots and talking to the GROUP to figure it out and theorize and…idk, be a team?

9 months ago 5 0 1 0

Truthfully it’s burning me out on DMing. I’m going to try to run a oneshot soon that will hopefully force them to understand why teamwork is important, but at this point I’m tired of running my own games because it seems like my players expect me to cater to their motivations as individuals first.

besties who DM TRRPGs, what do you do about players who seem to be averse to working together? that no matter what, the party just seems to NOT COMMUNICATE OR WORK TOGETHER despite every effort? Not in an antagonistic way, but they just don’t seem to think outside of their own stuff? #ttrpg

In the event we somehow manage to dig ourselves out of this, I truly hope that we, collectively, never forget that change and resistance was led by people either willfully leaving the safety of their lives/desks/offices, or were never afforded a life with opportunity for to be an 'elsewhere' at all.

Popping back in to share that my book, ANTENORA, won GOLD in the Foreword INDIE Awards General Category! I’ve been in such a creative funk lately and I’m so grateful that this happened to begin to pull me out of it. EEK! Thank you everyone who read my book and continues to share it!!!!

and ya know every so often you’re just overcome with the crippling fear that everyone in your life has suddenly decided that they all hate you and want nothing to do with you anymore

and that’s on conditional love and unstable childhoods I guess

tried to type out this post a few times so I’m settling on this:

i’m having a hard time again. i graduated from my masters program this past week and nothing has gotten easier. the things that are supposed to bring me joy have gotten complicated and frustrating.

one deep breath at a time.

can someone PLEASE tell me how to convince my grandparents that my university isn’t capable of just INVENTING a PhD program in my field because they “like me so much and want to keep me”

Young people SHOULD “have it easier” than you did. I’m sorry you got the strap up hill both ways and paid your debts with pounds of flesh, but the reason we work for progress is to make growing up and growing old gentler, easier, kinder, freer. Struggle isn’t necessary in a healthy society.
