The current mayor of Toronto and the TTC chair deserve real credit for being the first pols in a long time to care enough to try to stop the streetcar network from rotting.

Tell Ford: Hands off our TTC

We've partnered with our friends at @progresstoronto.bsky.social and created a handy email tool to let Ford know that this kind of intervention is unacceptable. Email him today with one-click at this link:

This puts hard-fought wins like fare capping at risk, and will likely result in fare increases

Toronto Transit riders deserve a system that is affordable, reliable and accountable to the people who use it every day. This bill put all of that at risk.

Doug Ford is coming for the TTC.

Bill 98 proposes massive changes to the transit in Ontario and risks a complete dismantling of the TTC. If this passes the TTC Board and City Council would no longer have control over the system.

it's very off, and not in accordance with TTC fare rules! You are allowed to complete your journey on the streetcar without paying another fare if it goes over 2 hours. You only have to tap again if boarding a new vehicle after the 2 hour window expires.

this isn't the first time fare inspectors have been ignorant about TTC fare policies, erroneously going after riders who have valid fare.

If it happens to you, please make a complaint here:

The TTC fare inspector is in the wrong!

Under the TTC’s rules, you are allowed to complete your trip after your 2-hour window expires if you are on a vehicle or in a station. You are *not* required to tap again unless you board a new vehicle after your 2-hour window is up.

Even without today's outage, there are many non-functioning elevators and escalators. See: stevemunro.ca/2026/04/20/u...

UPDATE: Elevators ARE still working—but a staff member is required to operate them.

Hopefully someone is posted at the elevators at all times to avoid unnecessary disruptions.

Some suggestions:

1. Give riders a timeline for when this will be fixed. Walk us through each step of the process

2. Deploy staff at every subway station to help those who need it climb the stairs

3. Make all wheel trans trips door-to-door for the duration of this outage

All elevators at TTC subway stations out of service Approximately 67 of the TTC's 70 subway stations currently have elevator access to train platforms.

You can’t spend years trying to force people off door-to-door Wheeltrans service if you don’t have working elevators.

This isn’t an “inconvenience,” it’s an affront to everyone with accessibility needs.

an annotated map of transit expansion projects in Scarborough, showing the under-construction Scarborough busway and Scarborough Subway extension, and the gap in eastern Scarborough where the proposed Scarborough East Rapid Transit line would run through

Today, over 50,000 people crowd onto buses and head east from Kennedy. Current transit projects in Scarborough don't run through this area. Scarborough doesn't end at McCowan.

A fast & reliable Scarborough East Rapid Transit line would fill this critical gap - but it won't happen without funding!

Province says Eglinton East LRT not currently on priority list Mayor Olivia Chow’s executive committee passed a motion Wednesday calling on the provincial and federal governments to prioritize the Eglinton East LRT, but the provincial government said the project ...

The province pitched in to help fund a new LRT on the Downtown Waterfront two weeks ago, in advance of new housing and new residents. Great!

So why won't they pitch in for a long-awaited transit line in eastern Scarborough, where tens of thousands of people already live and commute along?

Hard to disagree with @ttcriders.bsky.social : other countries have promoted public #transit during this crisis.

However, the briefing note, written by TTC staff for board members, says the fine print “provides new powers to the Minister of Transportation to introduce directives via regulation that may impact the TTC’s authority over fare and service policy, and thereby discretion to plan, manage and deliver transit services within the City of Toronto depending on how the legislation is used.”

Doug Ford’s new bill would give him too much control over TTC, confidential report warns A confidential TTC briefing note obtained by the Star says Bill 98 could allow Doug Ford’s government to take over the TTC to regulate fare prices and even share revenue with other transit systems.

They're right.

Bill 98 is a direct attack on the rights of local transit riders, transit workers and the TTC Board itself.

We fought for and won 3 years of a fare freeze. But for what? For Ford to overturn local decisions and raise fares? Not on our watch.

I thought Carney was a builder of infrastructure? With $2.4 billion, we could quickly get to incredible levels of intercity bus service.

Medical appointments, family visits, vacations, etc could all be done without a car.

Instead, the people who can afford a car will save ~$5 per tank.

1 week ago 226 82 9 3

Carney spends over $2 billion to cut fuel taxes right after cutting $5 billion in funding dedicated towards supporting, maintaining, & upgrading transit in Toronto and across Canada that millions rely on.

Remember, public transit is the real solution to high fuel prices - not temporary tax cuts!

The 1km of bus lane implemented as part of RapidTO Queens Quay East has significantly decreased runtime variability and travel times and increased ridership on route 114. We must roll out RapidTO city wide, no matter the political implication.

Yup, that’s it. They cut a planned increase to the gas tax that would have given $1.1 billion for maintenance over 10 years. The TTC had already factored that into their capital plans at the time.

Friendly reminder that the Ford government cut $1 billion from TTC subway maintenance in 2019, and that the federal government just cut $5 billion from public transit funding in Canada, money the TTC could have used to fix their state of good repair backlog.

What Federal MP Candidates are promising for transit in Scarborough Southwest and University-Rosedale TTCriders asked all federal MP candidates about their commitments to public transit. Read their responses to our transit policy survey and see where your candidates stand on improving public transit!

Toronto needs the federal government to step-up for capital and operating costs so that we can truly have the transit we deserve. See the entire results of the survey here:

We circulated a transit policy survey to all MP candidates in Scarborough Southwest and University-Rosedale ahead of the 2026 Federal by-elections on April 13.

We received responses from the NDP and Green campaigns in both ridings. Liberals provided written statements. No response from the Cons.

Matt Elliott: Why the Waterfront East LRT is a chance for Toronto to show Metrolinx the better way to build a transit project City hall, the TTC and Waterfront Toronto need to make sure they mitigate some of the factors that have made Canada’s recent infrastructure projects some of the most expensive in the world.

My @thestar.com column this week: With Metrolinx not involved, the Waterfront East LRT is a big opportunity to dunk on the provincial transit agency and prove there’s a better, more affordable, and more transparent way to build transit.

Please don’t screw it up.

The Ford government wants to decide transit fares for municipalities in Ontario Bill 98 was introduced this week and would give the province the power to decide how much transit riders pay to get around in Ontario.

In Toronto, the shift could threaten two recent wins: fare capping and a fare freeze, said the advocacy group @ttcriders.bsky.social.

Completely agree that lagging lefts on their own aren't sufficient, but they have installed more effective signal priority (like phase rotation) on Spadina and they plan to roll that out to more LRTs and streetcars! We’ll hold them to that promise.
