a certain important character from farseer may be in liveships if that convinces you (and i’m sure that’ll be really important in tawny man), plus you get a lot of important worldbuilding stuff too, and i think the characters show up later as well. definitely at least try book 1

she who became the sun and he who drowned the world by shelley parker-chan. canonically genderqueer protagonist who i at least read as transmasc, lots of interesting conversations about gender. dark historical fantasy, check warnings. i also liked the manga boys run the riot by keito gaku

halfway through the mad ship by robin hobb and it is soo good. i love how she does the magic in this series, it makes characters and their dynamics even more interesting and complex. the liveships are especially cool
