It’s an acquired taste, but once you get it, it’s good! And it lasts in your fridge far longer than any other vegetable, so you have lots of time to think about how to prepare it.
It was the jazz featured in the last scene of La La Land, where Emma Stone sees Ryan Gosling on stage at the piano, and she swoons into a fantasy of what their lives could have been if they had stayed together. But their professional passions got in the way. I got back in the car and drove on….
There it was, but its name and ambiance had changed. Now it’s the Lighthouse Cafe. Something about it seemed familiar, so I read the plaque on the door.

Cut to 40 years later, back in LA to attend a friend’s funeral, driving past Hermosa Beach the night before. I passes the street where the bar was located, stopped to take a look.
I met a lovely lady on a road trip to LA and it was love at first sight. We spent a wonderful evening at a little seaside bar in Hermosa Beach. But we lived apart, we both were pursuing our separate professional passions and while we spoke once more after the trip, I never saw her again.
