Devastating film. Michael B Jordan is so good in this but matched by a rarely better Octavia Spencer. A lovely character study made unbearably tense by the foreshadowing of tragedy.

Actually the first track haha

Haha. The second track is basically a song about being glad you’re not on the boats.

Give it another spin. It’s great. The inner record sleeve is a print of Scottish fishing charts which gives a nice flavour for the record’s themes.

Bought this on record shop day and it’s got to be one of the most beautiful albums ever made.

Feeling so cheerful this morning I just laughed at a Barney Ronay column in the Guardian.

As an aside, why are the Edinburgh filmhouse audiences worse than cineworld or vue ones. As soon as the film started people started moving about, guy next to me checked his phone. Shout out to the regular multiplex audience. In my experience they are better behaved than middle class arthouse ones!

I liked the little linking devices - the phrases, the drinks, the clothes, the skateboarders. It suggested a world filled with people donning disguises and performing roles, trying to connect and often failing. It saved the warmest and most Jarmusch for last: I could have spent more time in Paris!

I really liked this. It takes a beat to get back into that flat, atonal style, and it would be easy to dismiss the film as something of a trifle. But it works on you through both the accuracy of its observation, its humour, and its warm heart.

We all love that Neil Young soundtrack more than anything else in Dead Man, though!

I’m almost sure I will. I’ve liked all Jarmusch’s films to some extent (although not seen his most divisive Limits Of Control). I hope this is more Paterson than Dead Man though!

That is mad. Bluesky loves the combo of actor and political opinion. I see Gavin Newsom has come into the convo.

Oh is that’s what’s happened? Amazing.

Henry Ford is probably more right wing than Henry Fonda. Haha

Seems like a decent broad to me but, hey, what do I know?! Haha

Yeah there was something slightly inert about it which was weird because it was well directed and acted.

Had that claustrophobia you get in excessively stagey adaptations. Handsome, and Thompson is great, but this slightly missed the mark.

Simple minded, a bit batshit and really a lot of fun. I laughed a lot, it looked great and I think the critics are being ridiculously serious minded about a film that is only tangentially connected to the source novel. The best of Emerald Fennel’s films.
