OUT NOW: A fantastic new read for hydrologists ๐: a wrap-up of the Panta Rhei scientific decade of @iahs-aish.bsky.social. Between 2013 and 2022, it explored links between changes in hydrology and society. ๐ In this paper, Heidi Kreibich and her colleagues present ten years of progress. ๐
This is genius! so creative and also important for how we communicate our science

"Die Klimakrise muss oberste Prioritรคt auf der politischen Agenda haben, sowohl auf nationaler als auch auf internationaler Ebene. Fรผr die anstehende Bundestagswahl ist da allerdings noch deutlich Luft nach oben", sagt der Klimawissenschaftler Emanuele Bevacqua.

By comparing different text corpora on sustainable agriculture in Germany we found that farmers and the broader society in have very different perceptions of what sustainable agriculture is about. Check our paper here: besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
๐จ Weโll soon be hiring a 3-year postdoc to join our Leipzig lab on climate discourses ๐๐
Our Working group bridges #NLP, social science, and environmental research to explore how climate change, public discourse & political action interact. Stay tuned! @marckeuschnigg.bsky.social
Quite proud of being part of such a team :)
I always felt I was a "weird" scientist, too interdisciplinary.... Until I arrived at the UFZ where that's the norm.
Some days left to apply!
The German Research Foundation has left X and joined Bluesky. Good to see how Bluesky is increasingly becoming the new standard for science communication.
If you don't know which session to submit your work at #EGU25, check the tool developed by @jsodoge.bsky.social
Just paste your abstract and get suggestions :)
Great to see it is being used!!! Once the abstracts are submitted, we will have new functionalities that will make attending #EGU25 easier
I will share it next week :)
4/ We found that smaller-scale impacts were felt across Germany, often ignored in standard databases.
Using diverse data sources, like text, is a step toward capturing the full picture of disaster impacts
3/ Using #NLP, we analyzed thousands of newspaper articles to estimate cascading impacts. This approach lets us capture a broader picture of flood consequences over large areas ๐ฐ+๐ค
2/ Traditional assessments focus on direct, measurable impacts (e.g. damaged infrastructure, economic loss). But floods cascade across society in ways that conventional methods often miss โindirect and intangible effects like #mentalhealth, tourism losses, or water contamination
