The Democratic base has been crying out for New Deal style social democracy since the Bush era, if not longer. The narrow band of Republican politicos who have the ear of the party’s leaders say that Democrats need to cosplay as Republicans. Guess who gets listened to?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but there's no amount of capability that justifies being an awful human. The bar for being a decent human is already pretty low. If you can't clear that, I don't care how capable you are. I can certainly find someone *nearly* as capable who isn't a shitbag.

Star Trek The Search for Spock scene. Our Lord Spock is pictured in a white robe. He stands surrounded by his shipmates who are all older here than they were in the TV show. Sulu is smiling and touching Spock's chest for some reason. Uhura, Chekov, Scotty, and Bones stand close and all seem thrilled to see him, but are otherwise practicing self control and not feeling his chest. Despite being surrounded by friends, Spock is staring only at Kirk, for obvious reasons.

Someone this evening said that with my glasses and sweater, I looked like “an American Doctor Who.”

It was one of the nicest compliments I’ve received.

I think that the Halo adaptation had that problem. It didn't really know who it's audience was, and in the end pleased very few.

We need Democrats to go HARD at dismantling and defanging the auto sales model in the United States. Sell it as making it easier on the consumer if they have to, but really what they need to do is cripple one of the legs holding up Republican politics.
