have they given up on him, just are completely knackered, or is he just useless

Makes the most sense to get a genuinely elite 1C to compliment what they’ve got. They or Utah, probably.
LA package probably involves more firsts also, but I don’t know if they’d do it as they’re somewhat ageing out. Utah/Anaheim/SJ are the three big places but idk if San Jose is accelerating their rebuild by moving Misa/Dickinson for Matthews atm. Maybe it’s a 3 teamer with minnesota lol

i had these ideas pre-deadline. not sure if dallas is moving WyJo and Bischel for matthews (swap for Bourque?) but i had these as some ideas, assuming he’s extending there. Anaheim package needs McQueen imo now. Other idea maybe was PHI for Michkov-centred package but idk
genuinely was a winnable tie at 3-2 after the first leg, or even 4-2. as a fan who's finally moved to london, i was so looking forward to tomorrow's game as a potentially unreal night as a fan and now it just feels like a damp squib on ~95% of the outcomes.

transfer ban except for former cobham players 🙏
yeah there’s no real great move! could definitely see him going to Utah for Simashev and Tij and picks or something
tbh a team like anaheim or utah makes sense, maybe SJ also? but yeah it has to be a young team wanting to push chips in to properly contend, and idk who else has the centres and assets to do that easily that he’d waive for. fox for willy trade would be nice though
nylander trade is the harder one. probably similar package but slightly less value - like 3 good firsts like rob thomas or something.
yeah...
i modelled on QH trade, & they were done assuming he wasnt signing an extension guaranteed. can probably bump some picks etc in them, but these were meant to be the 'main' assets there
gist of them really are good to v good C prospect/young guy, good dman, middle 6 C, picks
these are the packages i cooked up while i was watching tsn and annoyed about the lack of moves the leafs were making for matthews
might look around at willy ones too
wish you podded more often! very good (albeit sobering). hoping we dont have to get to the point of you guys theorising matthews/nylander trades this summer...
(if you do i think dallas is a sneaky good option for 34)
gray and bergvall 100%, sarr quite interested, vdv also
regression again ole ole
curious if we go LW Enzo RW Neto and hato overlapping with reece RCB or what fotmob has it as the standard neto/tenzo/rw palmer and reece/hato alternating as the outside cb
or possibly enzo left neto right palmer 10 and hato going overlapping LB
yeah probably
matthews/nylander are the two only genuine 'must keeps', and there are a lot of 'keep but i would move for real upgrades' who are not even that valuable
feels like we might get reece RCB and hato doing attacking things, or some alternating
yeah i think the only world where i would be wanting to bring him in is if hes extended at like, 12x8, and i dont know what you can do to get him in easily without doing that knies swap which would give them a cheaper (and worse) top 6 forward signed long term.
acquiring jrob (knies swap...?) and extending him at 12x8 as a top line winger and bringing in dougie for cheap after a retool this season alongside a good coach like deboer feels like it'd be the easiest path back to contention in 26/27
i think matthews wouldn't do a marner and leave like that but it'd be a quinn hughes style move. figure you would be getting that type of package from SJ/ANA/LA/Utah/(CHI...?) if he is moved, but i am praying we can turn this around fast if not
really hoping that this is just the hunter to ovi era, and a new gm/coach can come in and build something for the latter part of the decade. my real worry is that it's going to be a really slow decline OR he asks out this summer and is moved to SJ (misa/dickinson?) or LA (byfield/clarke?)
#FellTheTre #BerubOUT
really does feel like the screw is tightening on this team, and there aren't really any easy outs; they're good enough to be a wildcard team i think but imo not worth it
far more likely to make it if you fire domi/joshua/jarnkrok et al and let the marlies play
probably some other super super niche conditions like the 2028 sliding again...?
regardless i'm all aboard #FallingOff4Verhoeff
(i wish i had the futurama alternate history scene to see what lindros's career is like as the 1oa for the leafs, probably no gilmour trade, maybe no sundin trade, entirely possible way less concussions, yada yada)
it actually goes back to the tom kurvers trade
he really does feel like the next daniel sprong at this point
