Just got back from watching Project Hail Mary, and I loved it so much! It’s on the longer side, but I barely noticed the time passing. It’s a mix of bleakness and optimism that did my soul good. Definitely worth watching on the big screen.

Posts by Myths Your Teacher Hated
Just finished recording the last episode for The Love Bugs, our Care Bear inspired arc on the Saturday Morning Roleplay podcast. I hadn’t realized how much I missed playing with these people until we were in it again. I really love doing this show.
A canoe flies over the landscape. The devil stands at the prow to encourage the rowers.
Episode 178 - The Flying Canoe
Would you risk your soul for a trip on a flying canoe to a sweet New Year’s party? How about to dance with the girl you like? Just make sure you have a designated driver. Pilot? Whatever.

A large white and brown dog lying on the floor. The bars of a baby gate are in the foreground
Our foster dog Zenith didn’t like being locked out of the kitchen while I was cooking last night. Giving big “nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen” vibes.

It’s #TransDayofVisibility so as a reminder, I’m agender, which falls under the trans umbrella. ☂️ Trans rights are human rights!
From now on, I am referring to reading my book at home as “having enrichment time in my enclosure.”

Zenith, our current foster, sends hearts and puppy smiles.
Cover for Blood on Her Tongue
Finished reading Blood on Her Tongue and whoo boy, it’s a heavy one. Very brooding, very dark, very gothic. If that’s your thing (and you’re not squeamish), this is fantastic.

Poster for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come
Ready or Not 2 was a blast. It takes the premise from the first movie and manages to have more fun with it. Mix in a stellar cast and a few surprising laughs and it’s a hell of a good time.

About to see Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. I was surprised at how much fun the first movie was, so I’m excited for the sequel.

Text reads: To Anzu. You weren't good at laying eggs, which is the primary duty of a chicken, but you did have very pretty feathers. I'm sorry that nats dug into your grave and ate you. That was unfortunate. I would say rest in peace, but alas. The rats.
Maybe my favorite dedication in any book ever. Alas, the rats.
Episode 177 - White as Snow, Red as Blood
We’re finally covering the original Disney animated film: Snow White. As usual, the Brothers Grimm have a much darker version. Then in Gods and Monsters, a boy will get into a predicament.

A wrestler in mid spinning leap onto a second wrestler in the ring next to the ref.
A wrestler crouches on the top ring, preparing to leap on another lying in the ring.
Went to Deep South Wrestling today, and had a blast! The wrestlers were entertaining and incredibly talented, and the seats were up close and personal. Can’t beat it for a free show!
About to watch Deep South Wrestling live, and I’m super excited. Never been a big wrestling fan, but it’s fun live.
Cover of Ali and Nino
Finished Ali and Nino, which was very different from my usual fare. Takes place is Azerbaijan in the 1910s and provides a very intimate look at the clash of cultures there. Complicated characters that I’m still not sure how I feel about, but interesting.

The cover of The Hedge Knight comic, showing Sir Duncan the Tall in full armor
Episode 176 - The Vagina Dialogues
This week, a knight rescues some maidens and gets very…unique powers. And yes, it’s exactly as weird and bawdy as you think. Then in Gods and Monsters, a maid will argue with her vagina and part ways.

Recently read Of Monsters and Mainframes for book club and loved it. It’s classic monsters in an intelligent space ship from the ship’s perspective. Light and one of the most fun books I’ve read in a while.
A white and brown dog in large sunglasses
Put the sunglasses on our foster dog, and suddenly she’s part of the Real Housedogs of Atlanta. Zenith is available for adoption at Lifeline.

Cover for This is How You Lose the Time War
Burned through This is How You Lose the Time War in a matter of days. It’s an easy but unique read. I absolutely fell in love with Red and Blue through their gorgeous letters and deadly combat through a wild dystopian multiverse. Highly recommended.

I finished Someone You Can Build a Nest In, and I loved it even more than I expected. It’s a sapphic romance from the POV of The Thing with a neurodivergent vibe. I wasn’t expecting to identify with the monster that hard, but here we are. Not for the squeamish, but fantastic.

Went on an outing to an arcade with Big Brothers this weekend and it got me craving Guitar Hero. Had to bust out my old PS2 and crank up GH2. I’m definitely rusty, but it’s coming back to me.

Episode 175 - The Once and Future King
We’re heading back to Britain for Arthur’s first foray into kingship. The barons…don’t take it well. Merlin makes his dramatic return. Then, in Gods and Monsters, Mr. Vinegar learns financial responsibility.

An origami onesie made from purple checkered paper
The same origami with a black pen beside it for scale.
My wife bought me an origami page a day calendar, and I’m enjoying it. Today’s baby onesie came out pretty well (pen for scale).
The cover to Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell
I just started reading Someone You Can Build a Nest In, and I’m already loving it. I did not expect to sympathize with the man-eating monster this hard, but here we are. Can’t put it down.

This doesn’t get nearly enough love. I really wish they’d do a sequel.
Cover art for Until Dawn game: an hourglass with a skull at the top and a snowy cabin with 8 human figures in the bottom.
I started playing Until Dawn today (late to the party, I know) and y’all, I am STRESSED! Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving it - the cast is stacked and the story is engrossing - but some of these choices are just cruel. I can’t wait to see where this game goes.

Finished Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and I loved it. It feels like a cross between Sands of Time and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which makes my old gamer heart happy. Some of the puzzles really test your platforming skill.

Cover of Colin Gets Promoted and Dooms the World by Mark Waddell
Finished Colin Gets Promoted and Dooms the World, which is every bit as wacky as the title implies. Predictable at times, but a fun ride all the same. A fun inversion on the usual trope.
