My next #Geology of the #NationalParks is for Minuteman Missile NHS. Honoring the US Cold War missile defenses, this Missile Silo extends 80’ into Cretaceous rocks like the Pierre Shale from when central NA was covered by the Western Interior Seaway.

I saw a post that said “if you ever think you’re stupid, remember there are still people supporting Trump, even after everything that has happened and come out.” And there was never anything more true spoken.
… once opened needs to be used or garbaged. So we decided to just tear up the floor to my office and the bathroom and paint those areas. Also this included removing my office wall in the process. My mandate of contain your mess is thrown out the window for the time being.
Disaster home makeover update. I got the Bills Room probably about 80% completed, however while laying the subfloor I ran into areas that hadn’t had the concrete sealer paint done yet. So those need to be painted first. However it is epoxy paint, expensive, comes in a gallon, and…

Overall I felt nothing propelling me to read further in the story. It all just felt kind of meh. It was wonderfully written but the characters all just left me feeling bleh.
Book #201 of my 305 Greatest Books is I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. A character study about a destitute family living in a castle that recently had come under new ownership by some handsome Americans.

I feel like I should be able to use my NYTimes Connections record on job applications. I mean I have a pretty good Purple First and Reverse Rainbow percentage. That should say something about my ability to manage a project, maybe?
Bills Room update: the front cabinets are essentially done. Fully painted and up-modded into built-ins. #homerenovation #homeremodel #basementremodel

Dear Republicans, you can’t be both “Lincoln is one of the greatest Republicans ever” (he’s not a R in today’s world but that’s a separate issue) and “How dare you get rid of/ we must replace the Robert E Lee statues”.
The wife has finished her wall art for the Buffalo Bills room. This is a zubas print blown up and hand painted by her. #homerenovation #homeremodel basementrenovation
Dinos in Pop Culture - our next stop on our move to NY was at the Wall Drug in SD, the infamous roadside attraction with billboards for hundreds of miles around. And in the back was this rather large animatronic T. rex.

Happy Pie Day to those who celebrate
Exactly the same here. It was freezing cold up until mid Feb then it jumped to 50/60 and stayed there. Good luck to you as well!
Ours has been as well (finger lakes of NY) but with the sudden turn cold again I’m hoping for some decent yields. I have a lot of maples and I only tap 8 of them so I’m planning on expanding a bit once I get my ducks in a row.
We are finishing up Season 4 of our The Clone Wars Rewatch today with the Maul Returns Arc, which includes Ep. 19 - Massacre, Ep. 20 - Bounty, Ep. 21 - Brothers, and Ep. 22 - Revenge.

The boxwork formations formed in the fractures produced from gypsum expansion and then were replaced with calcite crystals before being exposed within the cave system.
My next #Geology Of The #NationalParks Through Pictures is for Wind Cave NP. Wind Cave is both one of the oldest caves in the planet, at over 300 million years old, and is one of the only places you can see boxwork formations.

This is beyond ridiculous. Our energy bills are more than double last year NYSEG, despite using less energy. and I love how in their options to reduce they try and blame the price hike on us. #energyprices
Bills/Movie room update: the fireplace has been officially installed now and the free standing cabinets have been encased so that they are now built ins. These were so cheaply made and actually cockeyed, but encasing them and stabilizing them greatly enhanced their usability. #homerenovation
Ah! That explains it. I never thought of the caverns. Also not a place rhodochrosite would form but understandable. Should you ever need a geologist phone-a-friend consider me your rock nerd.
whereas if is was sylvite, it could make scientific sense. I actually wrote an article about this very topic long ago: aiptcomics.com/2017/12/15/r...
(Please note: @jasoncfry.bsky.social pleaded not guilty and suggested I inundate you with my geological minutia)
forms typically due to hydrothermal fluids moving through rocks underground and are found frequently with ore minerals like silver. (Random info: rhodochrosite is the State Mineral of Colorado). It is unlikely that such a large deposit of rhodochrosite could be produced to form such an environment,
… and not rhodochrosite. Sylvite is another bright red mineral but sylvite is a salt, similar to actual salt (AKA halite). Unlike salt (NaCl), sylvite is KCl and has a bitter taste to it. But it is a salt nonetheless and forms in similar environments. Rhodochrosite on the other hand
