Cellular deconstruction of the human skeletal muscle microenvironment identifies an exercise-induced histaminergic crosstalk Van der Stede et al. identified a role for mononuclear cells in the skeletal muscle microenvironment to steer the response to exercise. Mast cells locally secrete histamine during exercise, triggering...

On the cover of Cell Metabolism!
"In this issue, Van der Stede et al. uncover a pivotal role for mononuclear cells in skeletal muscle in relation to exercise training adaptations."

Thanks @thibauxvanderstede.bsky.social and colleagues for the science and @drawimpacts.bsky.social for the artwork!

Generally not a big fan of systematic reviews and meta-analyses/regressions, but this one is really useful.

Dozens of muscle biopsy studies testing effects of (endurance, HIT, SIT) exercise training on muscle fiber type composition & show no net change.

I like blue-sky (= curiosity-driven) research, so let's try this platform, meanwhile escaping from the ever more cloudy ✖️

Where are all the muscle biologists here?
