Did you know? The color of an owl’s eyes can tell you when it’s most active. If an owl has yellow eyes, it often hunts during the day; orange eyes, it hunts at dawn/dusk; and if it has brown eyes then it generally hunts at night 🦉
😍😍
Say hello to the Spotted Sandpiper.
Their constant tail-bobbing motion is unique. It might help with balance, waterproofing, or hunting. But scientists aren’t entirely sure why they do it!
We'd love to hear your theory: why do you think spotted sandpipers bob like this?

Work continues on vital fire mitigation measures at Silverwood thanks to funding from the San Diego River Conservancy.
Urban Corps of San Diego County recently cleared thirteen 60-gallon trash bags full of poison oak! We are thankful for this support to keep Silverwood safe!

It’s also native to San Diego, and can be spotted at Anstine-Audubon Nature Preserve.

Congratulations to our Photo of the Month winner, Merlin Mendoza, for this incredible shot of one of our local Great Horned Owl families.
That sounds wonderful!! Those backyard birds get us every time 💙 If you’re in San Diego, we do a Birding for Beginners course twice a year. The Spring session is currently underway, but keep an eye out for the Fall dates! We’d love to have you.
Happy #NationalGoBirdingDay!
Birding is for everyone, everywhere.
Whether you’re birding from your window, your balcony, or your backyard, solo or with a group, by sight or by ear, take a moment and tune into the birds around you. It’s a perfect day to connect with nature.
