A blacks and white photo of the garden facade of New Ways
The garden facade of New Ways, Northampton (1926) by Peter Behrens. This side of the house would prove more influential than its front, with a number of houses borrowing its design for their facades www.modernism-in-metroland.co.uk/blog/anatomy...

The Methodists built a lot of modernist churches in the post war years, and quite often the archons were Methodists too!

Looks like the section between Welham Green and Brookmans Park 🗺️
It isn’t listed, and I don’t know about the current condition. The owners are the family of the original owner I believe
Manser had earlier designed a house for himself in Leatherhead, named Golden Grove (1961), with a timber frame and internal courtyard. The house was built in an existing orchard, blending in with nature. Manser later lent his name to the yearly best house competition
Michael Manser is also known for Capel Manor House (1970) in Kent, for John Howard MP, built on the remains of a 19thC mansion. The house is a pavilion-like structure, on a concrete podium which is on top of a basement from the original villa.

Turnbull also designed Weston Point in Cheam in 1970, in a similar style, with an exposed steel frame and brick infill. Turnbull was a friend of the couple who couple who commissioned the house, who specified that wanted the house to be ”austere”

Other houses designed by Michael Manser and Associates in the 1960s and 70s, include the nearby 83 West Heath Drive (1971), designed by partner Peter Turnbull as a long, low house with a steel frame, centred around an internal courtyard

5 Byron Drive, Hampstead is due to be demolished and rebuilt by its owners. Designed by Michael Manser in 1962 for Rolf Schild, the house is hidden on a plot surrounded by trees. The house is two-storey, somewhat of a rarity for Manser who was known for his single storey designs

A black and white photo of the Sunway house at the Ideal Home Exhibition with crowds of visitors
This week's blog explores The Village of Tomorrow, a display of speculative modernist housing at the 1934 Ideal Home Exhibition. Many of the houses were built around the suburbs as developers sought to sell flat roofs and white walls to the masses
