I've seen many say "so what if people reject vaccines, refuse to wear a mask, or drink raw milk, it's Darwinism."

Well, the risk of viruses mutating into more deadly forms increases when they are allowed to spread. Individuals ignoring public health practices harms everyone.

Sex differences in treatments and outcomes of patients with cardiogenic shock: a systematic review and epidemiological meta-analysis - Critical Care Background Women are at higher risk of mortality from many acute cardiovascular conditions, but studies have demonstrated differing findings regarding the mortality of cardiogenic shock in women and m...

New platform, re-sharing our recent sex differences in cardiogenic shock SRMA:

-Women are ⬆️ likely to die than men (35% unadjusted, 10% adjusted for comorbidities)
-Women ⬇️ less likely to recieve mechanical support

Urgent need to understand these differences & enroll more women in CS RCTs!

Would love to start a #plasticsurgery starter pack, but there don’t seem to be many of us on here yet. Please comment if you’re a plastic surgeon, researcher, etc. so I can follow and add you! #medsky #sciencesky

Don’t Turn Inward After a bruising election, many Americans may feel an impulse toward solitude. That’s the wrong instinct.

I tried these tactics on TikTok in 2020 and the anti-covid any-vax MAGA folk weren’t having it… even respectfully provided information will fall on deaf ears

We wanted to better understand how to improve public health messaging against disinformation. So we asked Emily Oster how to coddle upper class Trump supporters about being wrong & selfish & ignorant so they can avoid being minorly inconvenienced by things like facts or the existence of other people

Hi new BlueSky friends! I’m a plastic and reconstructive surgery resident physician in Boston, and am interested in the intersection of patient safety, public health, and social media! Excited for a new platform that isn’t corrupted with misinformation (yet)✌🏻 #medsky #sciencesky #womeninmedicine

Here’s the paper:

That kind of happened, kind of didn’t as the app grew quickly. Now if you look at videos with the hashtag it’s a lot of wacky celebrity videos and even people sharing “DIYs” which is terrifying (and I just presented an abstract on at PSTM)

At the time, there actually wasn’t a lot of misinformation and most of the videos were by actual plastic surgeons, I presented at our national meeting and advocated for more of us to get on the app and make content to combat misinformation early on!

It was a fun cool story haha, I was one of the first on TikTok back in the day, and did an analysis of every video with the #plasticsurgery at the time, looking at who posted it, what it was about, etc. My program director kindly let me do this study as an intern back in 2020 😅

In a world of misinformation, understanding who has credentials is important. This paper investigates training backgrounds and scope of practice of self-proclaimed “cosmetic surgeons” practicing the full gamut of plastic and reconstructive surgery with minimal training. #plasticsurgery #medsky

I recently authored a new chapter on Patient Safety for our major plastic surgery textbook, Grabb and Smith. For the first time, DEI and psychological safety are discussed as vital aspects of patient safety in plastic and reconstructive surgery 📚
