A CAPITOL IDEA

On America’s first Moonless night
I stood in the penultimate row
of the Capitol Theater
awash in blinding spotlight
emanating from above the stage,
one among thirty-two hundred
fawning fans when Roger sang
the hypnotized never lie
but when Pete said Do Ya?
I left my body and looked down at the scene
like the ghost of a hit and run victim
rising helpless over carnage.
I could never spin that song again
but if it popped up on the car radio
I would probably still air drum the beat
or tap it out on the steering wheel.

On September 10-11, 1979, The Who performed their first American concerts without Keith Moon at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey. I was an avid fan but had epiphany during Won’t Get Fooled Again.

Proud of both my little babies, they each represent different milestones in my writing life.

My initial focus was to explore the #liminality in human experience, next, I explored my own #intersections 🖤

My pandemic poem for #PromptCombo @dragonslayerma.bsky.social

CW: sentimental, especially w/ the music, but it's a tribute (though I'm told med workers didn't want to be heroes; they were doing a job, an immensely difficult one)

It's difficult to pick just one poem from Cathy Galvin's beautiful new collection, Ethnology, A Love Song for Connemara, but this one in particular resonated with me. The book really needs to be read as one glorious unified love song. #poetry #CathyGalvin #Ethnology #BloodaxeBooks
