Now that it is potentially all about goal difference, will it be attacking football galore from Arteta for rest of the season? #arsecastextra

New for @josimarfootball.bsky.social: Fifa's new "prediction market partner" is backed by the Abu Dhabi royal family, has no working product yet, is unlicensed in almost all jurisdictions and is run by a man who last year paid a six-figure sum to settle an accusation of insider trading in India.
Some global CO2 prices: EU $84, UK $53, California $32, Northeastern US $27, Japan price cap $27, Australia $25, China $11.50, South Korea $10.50, Japan price floor $10.50
No trades on the first day (or for the rest of the year) as allowances haven’t been issued yet, and allocation not final. Which is a bit sloppy for 2026 and adds to the feeling that this ETS is a showcase rather than something that will actually cut CO2 emissions
Japan started its CO2 emissions trading scheme GX-ETS today, a pretty big deal with 300-400 companies. Though experts say its soft over all – no absolute CO2 cap and power companies get all their permits for free until 2033. Also a very low price cap/floor.
In its new blue carbon plan, the Philippines became the latest country to express interest in selling biodiversity credits in order to fund coastal projects. But who is going to buy these credits from developing countries? drive.google.com/drive/folder...
Rare Earth on R4 is one of the BBCs flagship environment programme's.
Today's episode about the impact of sport events was fascinating, not in what is said, but in what it didn't.
A near 1 hour programme talked entirely about climate impacts, barely a mention of the biodiversity impacts 1/3
By ignoring and even actively worsening the climate crisis, Fifa is failing its mission statement – to make the game global and ensure a sustainable future for the sport.

France and Finland have their own voluntary biodiversity markets, with the Netherlands setting one up. And then there will be the EU-wide nature credit market on top of that. Quite the time.
The one hectare/30 years is from a methodology developed by CDC, but other meths might choose otherwise, potentially making the French market a confusing place.
That’s radically different from eg. Terrasos (10 sq. m for one year) or Savimbo (one hectare for 2 months). Ot from the Australian scheme, where every project just gets one credit no matter what it achieves.
Removall and CDC are expecting to sell the first ever certificates in France’s voluntary biodiversity market at a whopping price of €60,000 per unit – with one unit covering one hectare conserved over 30 years.
Absolute emissions look set to grow then, as GDP increases. India is staring a domestic carbon market later this year, but this NDC indicates things won’t be too hard for the participants in 2030-35. Story by colleague @pnikita.bsky.social ($) carbon-pulse.com/496700/?site...
Months late, India published its climate plan today, but it seems ambition is slowing down. Target is 47% emissions intensity cuts by 2035, compared to old goal of 45% by 2030. www.pib.gov.in/PressReleseD...

Absolutely brilliant that @flatpacksweden.bsky.social is back, it’s really good. 1600s upcoming! Wish someone would do the same on Norway – I am sure there is *something* to say about 1536-1814…
This week the expert group designing the EU nature credit market had its first meeting. It could become a really huge thing covering major nature-wrecking sectors, but nobody outside the inner circle is even talking about it. Which is weird. 1/4
And as a Norwegian, I wonder if Norway will join the market. Some EU countries, like France, Finland, NL, have already started at home, but I have never heard a Norwegian say the words “nature credits”. Will we join, @miljodirektoratet.no? @karolineandaur.bsky.social?
My colleague Sergio Colombo has written several really good stories about it this week ($, I’m afraid) about what the 123 people expert group has been talking about. European nature is at stake, whether it will become a good or bad market. carbon-pulse.com/494288/
Everything is still up in the air, incl what a credit is supposed to be, what it is to be used for, and whether it should be voluntary (and hence small and pretty pointless) or mandatory (angry industry). It’s all up for grabs, and vert few people talk about it.

Publication alert! New paper on international climate politics! Multilateralism is on decline and international cooperation is getting messier. International climate politics is full of public-private collaboration and informal intergovernmental organizations. How does this work? 1/2
