this is my Youtube Standard English crown jewel. the absolute GOAT. "sturgeant control". when someone in the comments asked him what "sturgeant" meant he told them to "shut the fuck up". incredible physical appearance/video title/language skills/general attitude combo. it would be hard to do worse

to be fair to Hyman, the book isnt really about incorrect english, it's more a celebration of how ESL speakers interpret their new language and use it inventively and in synthesis with their other languages. which isnt really whats going on with Youtube Standard English

studying incorrect ways to do things is a really really good way to get an advanced handle on a subject, because it teaches you reasons why various rules and conventions exist and makes you MUCH better at communication. shout out Mr. Dominic Garguile

i think my 8th grade teacher got me cognitohazard-style on this subject by taking me out of standard 8th grade english and giving me separate grammar and literacy instructions. hes the one who gave me The Education of Hyman Kaplan to read, which is the classic Yiddish-American malapropism canon

on the complete opposite side here, i spiritually support the people who say "volumptuous" because i believe that is sort of spiritually correct. its wrong, and you shouldnt say it thinking its correct, but as an intentional error i think its excellent

heard a guy pronounce the G in "physiognomy" yesterday and experienced the metal gear solid guard alert noise internally even though it is the "accepted american pronunciation". a lot of our "accepted" pronunciations are wrong, im sorry. fizzy ogg? be serious

i think "extravagant amounts" is the most common phrase that would be used here normally, "exuberant" isnt even *incorrect* here if thats what they meant, but it isnt. i think they were going for extravagant or possibly exorbitant? but a lot of these YSE fuckups seem like "i needed a word here"

we are i think entering a phase of spoken english where meaning is derived from a sort of charlie-brown-adult effect, which has always been SORT OF true for all spoken communication, but has been made worse in a certain way in english from non-phoneme reading instruction. this is three-cued oratory

this is one where if it was intentional it would be a fun turn of phrase but you know in context that it's just an honest error

Age Verification - Noterook

as a case study in how to write a decentralized (it's stored on browserdb for ex), non-image-hosting social network it is of EXTREME interest, in my opinion at least, to other web developers, especially those in the social sphere. Noterook will likely be made open source at some point noterook.net

anyway i think Noterook is a promising project and watching the developer endure and handle this bullshit with steadfast logical calm has made me even more appreciative of her work. i don't know her personally, we are internet acquaintances only. i think its worth getting your username on Noterook

so the Noterook developer has been getting piles of hate mail about literally nothing while she tries to spend time with her cat, who is dying of congestive heart failure

...who are mad because the Noterook developer is a physically disabled trans woman who use AI as a tool in her work. having been confronted with their personal bogeyman--the actual disabled person who uses AI to address specific disability problems--are hitting peak neolibbing

2 days ago 8 0 1 0

meanwhile there is a 3rd group of people who are from the majority faction of the Anti-AI Movement, ie, the people who don't understand how any of this works ("anything" being every topic involved: LLMs, LIMs, copyright, the act of drawing pictures, fair use, corporations, disability, data centers)

as a result, she has simultaneously angered the lunatic fringe of every respective group: people who believe everyone else has to treat their age regression as if it is real, confused "youth liberation" people who believe that individual website owners write legislation, and irl dogfuckers/pedos

after she stated reasonably that 1. no she would not be preemptively banning anyone regardless of beef level or former posting crimes no matter how disliked 2. that you are also required to check an "i am 18" box to use the site 3. you are not allowed to write posts about intention to commit crimes

good evening, this is the news. fascinating developments last week: the creator of the first actual interesting (to me) alternative tumblr-derived posting website Noterook is in the middle of a multivarate stupid fight

yes. god bless it. i bet sometimes a youtube employee sneaks something like this into the data stream. i would if i worked in that department

from a TOS perspective i mean. having bad taste and worse judgment is not a bannable offense

6 days ago 11 0 1 0

this particular banwave has been complicated somewhat by one of the central targets this time leading up to the ban itself making some uhhhhhh questionable declarations on her blog, which you can ask someone else about if you want because im not getting into it. however the banwave is unjustified

mullenweg's documented history of personally pursuing trans women he has designated as his enemies offsite makes it extremely likely in my reckon that the remaining tumblr staff is being asked to cover for his after hours ban binges
