to be fair to Hyman, the book isnt really about incorrect english, it's more a celebration of how ESL speakers interpret their new language and use it inventively and in synthesis with their other languages. which isnt really whats going on with Youtube Standard English
studying incorrect ways to do things is a really really good way to get an advanced handle on a subject, because it teaches you reasons why various rules and conventions exist and makes you MUCH better at communication. shout out Mr. Dominic Garguile
i think my 8th grade teacher got me cognitohazard-style on this subject by taking me out of standard 8th grade english and giving me separate grammar and literacy instructions. hes the one who gave me The Education of Hyman Kaplan to read, which is the classic Yiddish-American malapropism canon

i think "extravagant amounts" is the most common phrase that would be used here normally, "exuberant" isnt even *incorrect* here if thats what they meant, but it isnt. i think they were going for extravagant or possibly exorbitant? but a lot of these YSE fuckups seem like "i needed a word here"
