Opinion | Why the Stock Market Makes No Sense Right Now

Why is the stock market shrugging off... everything? Well, maybe it's betting that AI will save it and that the government won't let AI fail. Call it the AI put. My new piece in NYT Opinion on the market's reliance on getting rescued:

Rivian partners with Tesla co-founder's Redwood on energy storage Rivian is partnering with Redwood, founded by Tesla co-founder JB Straubel, to deploy 10 MWh of second-life battery storage at its Illinois plant.

What a great idea! Redwood Materials to deploy a "used battery" storage facility at Rivian vehicle factory.

Every large industrial facility should have some battery storage - and better yet, make it used batteries.

LAUSD strike still on for Tuesday despite tentative agreements with two of three unions Monday becomes a two-track day for unions and LAUSD: Prepare for Tuesday strike and scramble for last-minute settlement. Families are left in a bind.

LAUSD strike still on for Tuesday despite tentative agreements with two of three unions. A shutdown would affect 390,000 students and 70,000 workers across Los Angeles Unified. www.latimes.com/california/s...

WHY LAUSD SCHOOL
We are the educators and school workers at Los Angeles Unified School District who support students every day-
WORKERS ARE
including classroom aides, special education assistants, bus drivers, food service workers, custodians, campus
TAKING A STAND
safety staff, and other student support professionals.
We're Standing Up for Our Schools. After 2 years of stalled negotiations, retaliation against workers, and the
district's decision to move forward with layoffs that cut essential services, SEIU Local 99 members voted 97% YES to authorize an Unfair Practice Charge strike. We don't want disruption - we want solutions.
This vote sends a clear message: our schools cannot afford more layoffs, more understaffing, or more broken promises. We are united and ready to fight for the resources and stability our students deserve.
WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?
Low pay, understaffing, subcontracting and a lack of respect for school workers doesn't just hurt us - it hurts students, families and our school communities.
Wages are so low many school workers struggle to afford basic necessities.
Schools are severely understaffed, limiting student support.
Workers are kept part-time to avoid providing health benefits.
Contracting out school jobs replaces trusted staff and puts student safety at risk.
High turnover means fewer stable, caring adults for students.
WHY A FAIR CONTRACT MATTERS
When school workers are supported, students succeed. This is why we are fighting for a fair contract that includes: more staffing, not shortages; cleaner, safer schools; better support for students with special needs; reliable services like meals, transportation, and supervision; and pay above the poverty line so school workers can live with dignity and focus on students.

No agreement for SEIU Local 99 members yet. Educational workers are handing these flyers out in front of LAUSD schools. If no agreement is made today, all three unions would still strike in solidarity starting tomorrow

Commentary: Dodger Walk: A great city needs a walking path to blue heaven. Do it, Frank McCourt What if you could walk to Dodger Stadium, for real? What if you could head into the stadium along a beautifully landscaped and wide Dodgers-themed path? You can walk now, sort of.

Great story by Shaikin on a critical issue. I usually hang in Chinatown before and after going to the stadium, and the ped infrastructure is dreadfully neglected.

Picture me with two small children doing a frogger across six lanes of traffic lined up for the lot...

Tom Steyer Is Trying Politics - The American Prospect To revive a dead political culture that could lead to a Republican becoming governor in one of the nation’s most Democratic states, the billionaire former investor is talking to voters.

So I profiled Tom Steyer's campaign for governor in California, where risks of an all-Republican runoff are rising. I think one big reason is that state Dems don't really believe in politics, in the sense of talking to voters and responding to their concerns. If nothing else, Steyer's doing that.

"There is a moral and democratic obligation to hold Trump administration officials accountable for their transgressions. The road map for what this accountability could look like is also growing clearer by the day."
