As our nation seemingly rallies around nationalistic fervor and MAGA fever, it’s important we consider our full history—not just the parts that make us feel good.

It wasn’t until I read Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz’s eye-opening and deeply troubling “An Indigenous Peoples’ History of The United States” that I learned the numerous atrocities the American continues to deny or ignore from its history.

However, the Sioux Nation has refused the money because they just want their land back.

Th award has been held in trust since 1980 and is worth over $2B today.

And that’s not “woke” history: The Supreme Court in fact agreed in 1980 with the Sioux Nation the land was illegally taken, but instead of giving the land back the Sioux were offered ~$100 million instead.

Did you know Mount Rushmore is built on land that was illegally taken from the Sioux Nation in the 1870? And the area it was built is considered sacred by the Plains Indians?

Because I didn’t.
