Ah yea, that makes sense

I'm curious what's triggering. The squeal of fingers sliding over the strings?
I was STUNNED that this model ended up being the winner. No Big 5, or Big 3, or Big Anything. Relationships measures capture positivity, layered on top of item-specific content. That's it.
It feels like we need to start developing new measures from square one.
Adding this to grad methods next year. We talk about all of this already but this is such a powerful illustration of it. Thanks for sharing!
I secretly judge people who don't like Ummagumma
Pooled results from 37 studies finds that, on average, women in relationships report higher levels of sexual satisfaction than men. www.psychologytoday.com/za/blog/attraction-evolv...
This gets the discussion going more than any other paper I've assigned. The methods are kinda bonkers and raise a ton of ethical issues. There was also a response (and counter response) that deal with these issues and it's good for demonstrating that ethical decisions are often complex.
I tried getting tickets but they were way too expensive :/
Recent work has shown how vulnerable online survey research is to LLMs. Motivated by this, we examined our online Posner cueing data from Prolific. It's concerning. We now must carefully consider when (or whether?) online behavioral data can be trusted.

There is nothing I would like more for @spspnews.bsky.social to do than provide a searchable PDF version of the conference schedule. Sorry if I miss your talk, I cannot navigate the Whova app
Looking for more data on relationships?
Did you know that The Love Consortium Dataverse is home to over 90 datasets with data from a romantic relationship.

Sneaky good is the best way to describe LLR. Some of the late-70s versions with Donna harmonizing at the end are just stunning.
I've been listening to this acoustic Cassidy all morning:

The most ridiculous thing in all of academia might be the two-day turnaround required for article proofs, especially when the deadline is X-mas eve.
How did I miss that there was new Cheap Trick this year??
UNCG will be hiring a tenure-track assistant professor in child clinical psychology! We are late in the cycle, so please help us circulate to any interested parties:

I love when my grad students send me dorky memes
Ooh, I need to get that. Did you ever read Meet Me in the Bathroom?

1) We need better measures. Common method variance accounts for many findings.
2) We have overly relied on crowd-sourced research for the last 15+ years and the quality of those data are very poor. We have a very real MTurk crisis on our hands.
new paper by Sean Westwood:
With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research
Oh wow!
Some of this really reminds me of Daft Punk's Random Access Memories (esp. Get Lucky)
"Can large language models stand in for human participants?
Many social scientists seem to think so"
Who!? Who are those social scientists? lol
Maybe the real crisis was the failed replications we made along the way?
When you said "a few years ago", i was expecting "[insert topic] in the time of the replication crisis". Thanks for shattering my illusion that we are still in the mid-2010's =p
In a new paper, my colleagues and I set out to demonstrate how method biases can create spurious findings in relationship science, by using a seemingly meaningless scale (e.g., "My relationship has very good Saturn") to predict relationship outcomes. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
