Naked mole-rats (who are AMAZING) live in ant-like colonies with queens and morphologically distinct social castes. Because this leads to a lot of inbreeding, one of those castes is "disperser".

I think closed loops are the only thing that makes sense scientifically, but open loops are more interesting narratively... or, even better, when it is unclear to the characters and the reader which rules apply

This is not intended to be a criticism; I'm just a very private person who tends to treat my romantic life as "no one's business until it's their business"... So it seems alien to me to announce that you are poly prior to having specifics that folks need to know.

I totally understand the importance of announcing specific relationships (no one wants to be a secret), but what about announcing a general intent to be poly? Eg a big Facebook post saying "we're opening the marriage!"
