We are thrilled to be partnering with the Colorado Bar's Rule of Law Task Force to protect constitutional principles and to preserve and protect the justice system. We share a commitment to addressing rule of law issues in a nonpartisan spirit.

LDAD has long stood for the principle that lawyers have a special duty to protect the rule of law and to be accountable to the oath we took when we entered the profession and to the rules of professional conduct. We will continue to stand up for these principles. 3/3
In December 2021, we filed an ethics complaint against Mr. Eastman for his post-election efforts to install Mr. Trump as president, notwithstanding the irrefutable fact that he lost his re-election campaign. Three months later, the State Bar of California announced its investigation. 2/3
Yesterday, the California Supreme Court disbarred John Eastman because of his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. We never celebrate the removal of a lawyer’s right to practice law, but we are proud that the California stood up for our professional ethics. 1/3
The Senate must stand up and assert its authority under the Constitution. Our founders wanted the people to have a say in when we go to war. We do this through our representatives in Congress. The Senate must look at the situation and determine if this conflict is in the best interest of the people.
"...Either way, Congress will thereby retain its authority... And the American people will benefit from the branches of Government exercising their constitutionally prescribed roles. Not a bad outcome, that!" 2/2
Today, we celebrate Judge Richard Leon for his decision on the WH ballroom. "congress may even choose to appropriate funds for this ballroom, or at least to decide that some other funding scheme is acceptable..." 1/2

The current DOJ has been seeing an exceptionally high error rate. The result: “Word is getting around to the bench. They’re seeing what’s happening.”
This article goes into the reasons and even mentions LDAD recent ethics filing against Drew Ensign.

Why is a free press essential to a healthy democracy? In a democracy the government is accountable to the people. A free press ensures the people know what is actually going on, not what the government wants them to know.
DoD needs to give the press access.

LDAD volunteer, Jamie Speyer, published an important editorial over the weekend. It's a must read for those who care about the rule of law.
Again the State is using its legal authority to punish perceived enemies is antithetical to core Constitutional principles and the rule of law. Trust in our government requires a belief that it exercises its authority based on facts and law, not politics or revenge.

We're pleased to see our Ethics Complaint against Drew C. Ensign over his conduct in immigration cases included in this article.
We agree with the state AGs that DOJ must abandon its proposal. State-level ethics investigations are one way we ensure the law is applied equally to all.
The head of the DOJ's immigration litigation office has lied to judges, disobeyed court orders and failed to stop attorneys he supervises from engaging in misconduct in high-profile immigration cases, according to an ethics complaint. www.law360.com/artic...
📣📣 Today, we filed an ethics complaint with a coalition with the DC Bar asking for an investigation into Drew Ensign, a senior DOJ immigration official, for alleged professional misconduct in multiple high-profile federal immigration cases -- inc. Kilmar Garcia Abrego.

BREAKING: Alongside a bipartisan coalition of 129 former federal and state judges and @ldadorg.bsky.social, we are calling on Acting AG Blanche to withdraw a proposed DOJ rule that would shield department attorneys from independent ethics oversight.
BREAKING: @democracydefendersfund.org & @ldadorg.bsky.social — w/ bipartisan group of 129 former federal & state judges — called on Blanche to withdraw a proposed rule exempting DOJ attorneys from state ethics oversight
No lawyer should be exempt from ethics oversight--not even DOJ attorneys -TN
This goes along with messaging from Secretary Hegseth concerning the war and which @onthemedia.bsky.social recently reported on.
America is a religiously diverse country. Our leaders represent all Americans -- those of all faiths + those who don't believe. 2/2

Over the past week the subject of the religious rhetoric from the Executive Branch has taken on new urgency. Church + State are separated per the Constitution, but the overtly religious messaging from the end of last week and this weekend is disturbing ⬇️ 1/2

Pam Bondi leaves a degraded DOJ that is severely understaffed and demoralized by her leadership failures. But there is nothing to celebrate in her departure.
However, it looks as if her replacement will continue this destruction. Join us in standing up against this! 5/5
ldad.org
Her lasting legacy will be her mishandling of the “Epstein files.” Powerful men remain shielded from public exposure and liability, even as the identities of Epstein’s victims were revealed in the documents that have been released so far. 4/5
DOJ attorneys were told to aggressively align their work with the President and his priorities. Politically motivated prosecutions and investigations became the order of the day. 3/5
In doing so, she eliminated key DOJ offices that had long protected the public from wrongdoing, while shielding the elite and powerful from accountability. The pace of destruction has been breathtaking. Bondi began her service by issuing a so-called “zealous advocacy” memo. 2/5
What has Pam Bondi achieved in her time as Attorney General? She will be known as the person who broke the DOJ. She has enthusiastically transformed the country’s pre-eminent law enforcement agency into the personal law firm of the President. 1/5
We are already working on it!
We are already working on it!!
With Pam Bondi being fired, the attorney disciplinary complaint filed against her by @ldadorg.bsky.social before the Florida bar association can now proceed. #RuleOfLaw #AttorneyEthics

LDAD Volunteer, James Kobak, speaks out about unitary executive theory & how it threatens our personal liberties & the rule of law in @thefulcrum-us.bsky.social. The phrase is not found in the constitution & runs counter to its design. We have a power-hungry executive, not a unitary one. 2/2
📣 "A President may have his wish list, but the real bullet points in the nation’s agenda are the statutes and funding bills passed by Congress. And the framework is the rule of law, the Constitution, and the weightiest priorities of all—the Bill of Rights." 1/2

This is shocking and represents another shift in how this administration is applying the law. More than 23,000 criminal cases were closed in Trump's first 6 months, including those concerning terrorism, white collar crime, drugs & other offenses.

How is the Rule of Law being abused? @katiephang.bsky.social takes us through some recent lawsuits that should not be happening.
👏👏 to her for calling out the lawyers bringing these cases along with the plaintiffs themselves.
