What Autumn said. John Swartzwelder, former Simpsons writer, would say his first draft was intentionally shit with pattern dialogue and uncharacteristic moments, and that let him get into the better part of writing; rewrite mode.

The editorial team at the Mississippi Free Press discovered we published a column written by a fake author using artificial intelligence.
Here’s what happened and what we're doing to prevent this from happening in the future.

Our team received a report of intermittent app outages at about 11:40pm PDT on April 15, 2026. They worked through the night to mitigate a sophisticated Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack, which intensified throughout the day.
NPPA is pleased to report that the FAA has withdrawn an onerous flight restriction issued earlier this year, which had prohibited drone flights near “mobile assets” of ICE/DHS and several other federal agencies. Full statement here: nppa.org/news/844

FINAL UPDATE: Both northbound I-5 lanes are now OPEN south of Bellingham.
It's been nearly 4 weeks since the March 19 slide. Since then crews have stabilized the slope with 96 steel dowels and hauled enough debris to fill 2 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Father Brown is still on the case.
Subtle Slothy appearance in the detail photo of the rock dowel. Bellingham’s recently-adopted sloth mascot that lives up a tree above I-5.
A 10-year chimp civil war continues with no end in sight.
Have you seen @telotrucks.bsky.social ? No front hood in their design.
UPDATE 4/11: Last planned holes have been drilled and rock dowels grouted to stabilize the slope. Now we're pull testing the dowels, while other crews break and haul debris around the clock.
- NB I-5 remains closed until 5a Thurs (4/16)
- SB rolling slowdown 8a Sun (4/12)
Will take pressure off local roads where safety has been a concern. Witnessed the aftermath of a crash this week on a detour. Vehicle looked to have gotten airborne over a driveway culvert.
Drivers rejoice: WSDOT has announced a reopening date for northbound I-5 south of Bellingham. The interstate is expected to reopen April 16, nearly a month after a landslide blocked both lanes and forced a closure as crews cleaned up debris and stabilized the slope.
UPDATE 4/9: We continue to process and haul debris from the site. Last night we removed nearly 1,000 cubic yards of material.
We also expect to finish installing rock dowels to stabilize the slope & begin testing them Friday.
Northbound I-5 remains closed south of Bellingham.
Q: What is the film about? A: The fight to make Rainbow Road less car-centric and more pedestrian-friendly.

Unique daily likers as a graph over the last year. It's down from about 1.6 million a day a year ago to 1.1 million a day now.
I tend to get dogpiled every time I say this but: as someone *who likes bluesky and benefits from being here* we have a problem.
The network is shrinking, not growing. It's shrinking a lot: only about 1.1m people a day even like a post. This time last year it was 1.6m.

Congrats, Drew!
Both northbound lanes of I-5 south of Bellingham are closed this morning after a landslide Thursday night. There is no estimated time of reopening.
This will take them some time on the west side. bsky.app/profile/nort...
UPDATE #2: SR 20/North Cascades Hwy remains blocked at Diablo Lake, 4 miles west of the seasonal closure, until further notice.
The slope is stable, but the magnitude of 200 ft rocks in the road is significant. Our crews are working on a plan to remove them from the highway.
Host cities are increasingly on the hook for policing costs for major events. But why aren’t these costs covered by the event organizers?

The National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) strongly condemns the reported decision by the U.S. Department of Defense to exclude press photographers from Pentagon briefings after photographs of Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth were published that officials reportedly considered “unflattering.”
I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be joining Bluesky as interim CEO. I deeply believe in what this team has built and the open social web they're fighting for. More here: toni.org/2026/03/09/c...
Minnesota lawmaker Katie Jones rode in a cargo e-bike to the hospital for her baby's birth. Her husband, Peter Schmitt, pedaled the two miles there.
On the return journey, their son Hans – all 8 pounds and 1 ounce of him – was bundled up and handled it just fine, Jones said.

The USA and Israel have started bombing Iran and Trump has announced an explicit political goal, full regime change for the Iranian people. Air power is certainly about to have a moment. I put together this free primer on what we know and what we should be asking. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...
