Indeed. And I would argue the same for much literature being taught to 16yo students, the majority of whom are unable to appreciate nor enjoy what it is. Often counterproductive as it puts of many people from ever again picking up a book from classic literature

My understanding from The Onion is that it might take a few more months before they get the keys and can relaunch with their new material. The judges order for the site to be leased to them isn’t immediately enforceable

Exactly: with the exception of business use, there’s no need. How many times have I heard a householder say “but how can I bring that sofa home from the store?” or “the ton of firewood”?
Pay for it to be delivered- it won’t break the bank: you pay for your takeouts to be delivered every week

It is both true that rural areas are subsidized by urban areas and that planning (or lack of) in rural areas has made the provision of the most basic services incredibly difficult and impossible in somecases... Making rural areas hard places to live

Nokia’s partnership with MS was bc their Symbian OS was floundering. They then made a 2nd blunder by putting their future into the hands of Windows Phone OS

I can’t tell if this footage is real or not, but London is home to about 30,000 parakeets and they do tend to roost in large flocks

Opinion: Carbon tax may be the tax we love to hate, but it's the one we can't afford to scrap Carbon tax may be unpopular, but it’s one of the cheapest tools we have to avoid a far more expensive future, and the government was wrong to cave in after protests, writes John Gibbons.

John Gibbons on carbon tax: It may be unpopular, but we need it to avoid a far more expensive future - the government was wrong to cave in after protests.

I agree with this. But your OP specifically called out his reaction to women (which many opposition parties are led by). That implies misogyny

As per earlier in the thread, a specification is needed. But not one that prescribes every single detail up-front, with little or no room to manoeuvre when your software is put out into the wild

But the misogyny accusations are unfounded. Look at how he has responded to Paul Murphy or RBB’s questions and you’ll see he is all in favour of equality when dishing out testy, holier than thou, superior attitudes 😂

Most software development isn’t trying to solve problems like that. They’re more “can you make something that gives customers a better experience?” or “can you make the process more efficient with less people writing on paper?”

He’s right: the IRS doesn’t decide tax policy: that’s what Congress does. The IRS only implements that policy and the CEO’s job is to ensure it’s done efficiently

The British also lost the Irish War of Independence in 1921 : to a much smaller population without even the military resources of a state

It could be because it’s a cafe that apparently doesn’t have any business being there, but when you dig deeper, all will be revealed and you’ll tap the side of your nose for the cleverness of it

Possibly: our FF & FG governments tend to take a short term view on the economy and balance of payments. Failing to see the bigger picture where energy independence means lower outflows of cash from the economy (to import oil and gas).

We must wait, not just until the right wing of politics isn’t in power, but when their current insanity has calmed down. So that when, inevitably, a party to the right gets back into power, it’s in a more centrist form. That won’t just burn the lot down again

They should reinstate grants for batteries for solar panels. It made no sense to drop that. Even outside a fuel crisis, it helps with grid levelling (ppl drawing from batteries after sundown at peak demand and not trying to export to grid at midday in June when supply is plenty and demand low)
