My mother, Dr. Sarah Keefer, died this morning. In her life she was a respected Anglo-Saxonist, a liturgist, and she loved Bede and Cuthbert and the beauty of Durham Cathedral.
Dementia is a hideous illness to have stolen her ability to enjoy those things from her. She is free now.

Reflecting on the world in which we presently live, I find I have hardened my values significantly with the present rise of fascism and worse. I will not dignify oppressors with false respect. I will keep being kind, compassionate, and considerate because screw nihilism and cruelty.
