This is such a great contribution to the Special Committee, and in general a very needed addition to democratic processes.

There's lots of evidence of the power of mini-publics. You can see here for an example of their use in the health data space.

This is the idea we presented to the BC legislature’s Special Committee on Democratic and Electoral Reform:
**deliberative mini-publics**

Check out the video for a quick tl;dr on what mini-publics are, and head to bcpolicy.ca/mini-publics to learn more.

We need to talk about the (wishful?) thinking driving Cdn health policy:

That changing how & how much we pay MDs will fix the primary care crisis.

New “blended” pymt models, 1st seen in BC, are making this claim.

I found this article helpful in trying to understand why so many people are either not noticing what is going on or thinking (hoping) that it will all go away.

Opinion: Understanding Indigenous sovereignty is a source of strength as B.C. confronts new threats Rather than fear mongering and ignorance, we need to embrace the true foundations of B.C. and Canada, and respond to real threats together

Important message from @christineboyle.bsky.social & Jody Wilson-Raybould 👇

"Rather than fear mongering & promoting ignorance of our shared history, we need to embrace the true foundations of BC & Canada, and respond to real threats together & in true partnership."

Opinion: Recruiting U.S. scientists is a fine idea – except we’re barely supporting Canadian scientists as it is Before we look to take advantage of fleeing American talent, let’s nurture the Canadian talent we have here by increasing R&D spending

Border and Rule: Global Migration, Capitalism, and the Rise of Racist Nationalism An urgent, global account of the migration crisis and the function of borders across political, social, cultural, and economic systems.

This book by @harshawalia.bsky.social was recommended by @wickdchiq.bsky.social. It's perhaps not precisely what you are asking, but still seems very relevant.

Assessing the prevalence of unmet need for genetic counseling in Canada and exploring associations with sociodemographic factors - European Journal of Human Genetics European Journal of Human Genetics - Assessing the prevalence of unmet need for genetic counseling in Canada and exploring associations with sociodemographic factors

New paper alert! 🚨

Up to 39% of Canadians have unmet need for genetic counselling and that its associated with some sociodemographic characteristics. Much of this unmet need is for multifactorial conditions and wouldn’t be met through the current system.

Mass shootings are clearly a human tragedy. This study underlines the far broader public health effects. The level of harm suggested is difficult to grasp.

This is a great read on how and why vaccine hesitancy can change. For example, research by @greyson.bsky.social shows "... non-judgmental support, opportunities to ask healthcare providers questions and the reassurance of seeing with their own eyes that vaccines didn’t harm their children" can help.
