I was actually put off anything even remotely connected to the genre for a long time because the podcast title “My Favorite Murder” grossed me out so much. After you’ve seen crime scene photos of one of your dear friends at her murderer’s trial you have less patience for that kind of cutesy shit.
Right! This is why, despite jokingly describing myself as newly a “true crime girlie,” I have a healthy amount of side eye for the collective genre. Anything I listen to/read has to be respectful toward and focus on the victims rather than thrill in the depravity of the perpetrators.
