A potent weather system will bring snowfall, ice pellets, and freezing rain to Newfoundland this week.
Significant snow and freezing precipitation will begin late Tuesday, intensifying on Wednesday morning and afternoon.

Looking at the multi-model outlook into early May: mostly fine but somewhat chilly this week. Some brief showers or flurries.
A gradual warm up... aftn teens next week and for the start of May. However, passing rain systems (mix north?) are likely.
MUCH colder air has moved in, and freezing rain will take hold later today or this evening on the Avlaon before spreading to the west overnight and on Wednesday.
I've got lots of details in the morning briefing!

The hot spot in Canada right now is St. John's Int'l Airport with a temperature of 17.5°C. #nlwx
Ice storm and snow expected to hit Newfoundland Tuesday–Thursday, bringing travel disruptions and outage risks. www.theweathernetwork.com/en/news/weat...
Showers (some wet snow mix) over eastern areas early this morning move off before noon. Clouds already breaking up in western areas; clearing from west to east as the showers move off. A brisk northwest wind keeping temps in the single digits.
The rest of the week is mostly fine but rather cool.
Good morning! Unseasonably warm today across NL, but a cold front changes that fast. A Late-season winter storm looms for Tuesday with freezing rain and snow. #nlwx

I am a bit concerned about the potential for prolonged & significant amount of freezing rain for eastern & parts of central Nfld from Tuesday into Wed & psbl Thu AM in central.
Eastern: Showers > frz rain > rain.
Central: Snow > ice > frz rain.
Western gets all snow.

⚠️=NEW=⚠️Special #NLwx statement issued for the Avalon & Bonavista Peninsulas for the potential for significant freezing rain.
Timeline: Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening.
Potential freezing rain duration: 6-18 hours.
Potential freezing rain amount: 10-20mm+
More showers (and maybe a few breaks of sun) are on the way tomorrow for #NLwx, however temperatures will be quite mild!
Double digits & mid teens are expected island wide, with cooling temps west to east.
Some areas in central & NE Nfld may reach the upper teens!
Some areas of Newfoundland could get close to 20 degrees on Monday, but it's short-lived. #NLwx

A band of rain just entering NW NB will slide SE today and tonight moving out of NS Monday morning. There will be a change to wet snow as the band passes tonight, esply NW NB.
Ahead of this band, drizzle & a few showers are more likely along Atlantic & NB Fundy coasts.
Clears in NB first on Monday.
NOAA-21 / VIIRS imagery showing the snow cover beginning to recede from southeastern portions of the island. Also a slice of bare ground through the Codroy Valley.
Plenty of snow remaining elsewhere.

We're poised to lose a lot of snow over the next 3 days, especially Sun and Mon where it will be above 10 C and windy. However, most models are showing some flavour of this nonesense for next week. So maybe two steps forward, one step backwards, but don't worry, Spring is definitely winning. #nlwx
Enjoy today's sunshine; low-mid teens inland.
Showers, drizzle & fog Sunday in brisk south winds.
A band of rain changes to snow in NW NB Sunday evening. The rain band crosses the Maritimes Sunday night moving offshore CB Monday. Then a fairly fine but coolish week.
I had just 5.3mm in thunderstorms early this morning. Showers still widespread along the eastern shore at 7am are moving offshore. Clearing first in New Brunswick today where teens can be expected this aftn. Aftn sunny breaks & a few low teens elsewhere.
Fine Saturday. Drizzle & showers Sunday.
A band of rain over Maine clips SW areas later this morning then moves off this aftn. Another rain band moves into NW NB tonight then reaches CB Friday morning. It moves off with enough clearing Friday aftn to allow SW NS & southern half NB to reach mid teens.
Fine Saturday. Showers/drizzle Sunday.
A band of rain at times heavy over the middle of the Maritimes moves offshore this am tapering to drizzle. My 22.6mm was the highest I found so far.
Some more rain clips SW areas Thursday morning.
Then another rain band across the region Friday morning clears out with mild aftn temperatures.
My 9mm was pretty representative of yesterday's rainfall.
Clearing today; mild teens in the SW; single digits north & east.
A band of rain & drizzle moves in tonight (mix NE NB) tapers to drizzle on Wednesday. More showers or drizzle Thursday.
Take Friday off for a mostly fine warm day!
The bad news? A quick shot of snow tonight for many in Nfld.
Parts of the SW, south coast & Burin Pen will stay as or mix w/rain.
The Avalon should change to showers in the AM.
Good news? It warms tomorrow & snow melts.
Generally 2-5cm, with pockets of 5-10cm for some.

At 7:30am rain has just started in Yarmouth. The rain moves east into E NB & Halifax by noon then reaches Sydney by suppertime as a rain-snow mix. This system moves out tonight. The next two systems mostly at night: Tues night then Thursday night. With teens in some afternoons, it will be nice.
Sunshine west. As brisk northwest winds ease off, skies over eastern areas will clear as well.
Rain develops over the western half of the Maritimes Monday morning the spreads eastward (but a wet snow mix when it begins in CB late aftn). Several more passing showery systems this week... but mild.
At 7am rain has covered much of southern NB & W PEI with a wintry mix in the north. The rain (mix north) slides south & east today (HFX by lunch) then tapers to flurries tonight.
Clears Sunday. Rain gradually develops Monday-Monday night and again Wednesday with mild temperatures.
Nice day... breezy SW winds. Mid teens inland!
Rain moves into NB tonight changes to snow N NB (maybe 10cm Acadian Peninsula). Rain tapers to showers or flurries Saturday. Winds switch to gusty NW.
Fine Sunday. A band of rain passes Monday.
Warmer than today for most on Friday with more sunshine. There will be some showers that move into northern New Brunswick ahead of a front that will bring showers to the Maritimes Friday night - Saturday. N.L. chance of showers/flurries on the northern peninsula. #NSwx #NBwx #PEwx #NLwx #halisky
Fine today and much of Friday. Breezy south winds Friday.
A band of rain (mix in the north) moves south Friday night into eastern areas on Saturday. A few showers/flurries then clearing as winds shift to northwest.
A couple of rain systems and warm temperatures early next week.
Lots of sunshine in the Maritimes on Thursday with temperatures warmer for most — still cool on coastlines exposed to onshore winds. Newfoundland will also see a fair amount of sun but a chance of flurries or showers, mainly in central/west. #NSwx #NBwx #PEwx #NLwx
Andrea Barbour, Newfoundland's Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, is encouraging people to see beyond the chilly temperatures.
