Romano-British brooch in the form of a crouching hare, viewed from the side with head to the right. The hare has one long ear, a slightly curved incised mouth, and two curved legs (one back and one front). The brooch is cast from copper alloy (bronze), now grey in colour. The body is inlaid with green enamel with four copper-alloy decorative dots in the green enamel. The head is decorated with a circular green enamel inlay, at the centre of which is a copper-alloy dot for the eye.

Lovely little Romano-British brooch in the form of a hare 😍

The artisan who made this brooch some 1,900 years ago, gave the hare a cheerful little face! Copper alloy decorated with enamel.

If the software that powers a state's unemployment insurance system breaks, there is no sense in which the state has an unemployment insurance program.

In government technology isn't a nice-to-have, it's not a bolt-on—it's the codification and execution of the mission of the agency.

Two-handled spherical clay vessel decorated with spirals, linear banding, and other motifs, in dark brown and red on a cream coloured slip. Dated to the Late Neolithic I, 5300-4800 BC. From Dimini, Thessaly, Greece. National Archaeological Museum, Athens. My photo taken 2018.

Astoundingly, this colourful clay vase was made between 7,300 and 6,800 years ago! 🤯

A masterpiece of Late Neolithic ceramic art, the decorative elements may well represent woven textile patterns. From Dimini, Thessaly, Greece. National Archaeological Museum, Athens. 📷 by me

A Christmas wreath hung against a white wood panelled wall. Along the bottom in bright red and green are the words "Chief on a Wreath." In the middle of the wreath is an action figure of Chief O'Brien from Deep Space Nine. He is wearing an elf hat and a shoulder harness, and holding janitorial accessories: a ring of keys and a large plunger.

As we approach the holiday season, I have once again hung this up in the gym, to encourage the children to think about their behaviour and life choices.

One of the suburbs here is called Little Canada and I like to imagine multigenerational families of Canadians living in rickety apartments in Canadatown with a moose infestation, serving poutine and beavertails out of hole-in-the-wall diners while wearing Canada Goose and saying "eh" a lot

The picture shows a fishhook made of wild boar tusk. Only the curved, pointed end and the upper part are visible. The rest is wrapped in fishing line. The fishing line is made of twisted bast.

Fishing some 5,300 years ago: a Neolithic fishhook made of wild boar tusk, wrapped with a fishing line. The size of the fishhook is 6.5 cm. It was used to catch pikes.

Found in the lake-dwelling settlement of Arbon Bleiche 3, Switzerland.

I kid you not, @itch.io has been taken down by Funko of "Funko Pop" because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called Brand Shield that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain

Meme that uses the album art from André Cymone's album Livin' in the New Wave, with him in a VR environment seemingly generating a ray of energy between his hands. At the top the text says "You can always shitpost on Bluesky", and between André's hands it says "it’s always morally correct".

This was at my dog park and it broke me. In a crowded field of contenders this may be the most cursed cybertruck I’ve ever seen. Maybe the most cursed image full stop. Incontrovertible proof that god is either impotent, indifferent, or illusory.

I know no one is actually hating on worms but I saw no less than five posts calling Singal a worm or leech. But honestly they fill important ecological functions and his only function is to obsequiously torture vulnerable people to serve fascism.

...covid has turned me into a full worm wifeguy

Teacher: Now let's learn regular expressions. Regular expressions are a limited form of computation that can match many kinds of strings, but not parse recursively or execute arbitrary programs.

Student: And ^.?$|^(..+?)\1+$ determines if a number is prime.

Teacher: wtf

it’s actually really fucked up the way everyone is talking about the nypd doing a bad job looking for the shooter. would love to see you try looking for clues when 95% of your mental capacity must remain focused on protecting yourself from fentanyl. and it’s like. not even fun or exciting or cool

A funny story about bloodhounds before I go. Augustus went through the search and rescue program with my stepfather. Did great until the final certification when, instead of finding the guy hiding in the woods to pass, he tracked a bag of McDonald's fries. For two miles.

I believe the Earth is actually a custard filled globe, hardened by fire and caramel along the upper crust. Yes, I have founded the Flan Earth Society. I even wrote some stories about it. It's decent flan fiction.
