A really well built game can come out, and it plays nice, but it doesn't click with anyone except the passionate play-testers who molded the game in the studio discord...

You need fresh people, and you need critics. But dont let them boss you around either, it's a balance.

My hottest take right now:

Devs need to stop surrounding themselves with only "Yes-men".

You need some dissent & criticism, (honest criticisms!), to arrive at better design. That doesn't mean you have to implement exactly what they say, but rather just to be open to it.

Our main dog Goofy has misplaced some film reels and other items throughout his quaint 15-room mansion of a house, from a time when a cartoon character living in the United States could afford such a lush suburban home.

Here he is standing next to a grandfather clock and a cool little hi-fi stereo system, doing a stayin' alive dance to the disco beats.

You might notice he also has weird moustache but that's just a glitch of the high resolution and texture correction settings in the emulator which I didn't notice at the time so we'll be enjoying the evil twin version of Goofy throughout this adventure.

Despite his large house with many rooms, Goofy can't really afford the upkeep of such property so he leaves his house in relative disarray, having his basement flooded with some suitcases, a treasure chest and even an oil can just scattered around as he's walking through the knee-high water without a care in the world.

It's like the water-themed equivalent of the "this is fine" meme.

The outside of Goofy's lovely yellow house shows it's smaller on the outside, with a wonderful green lawn, some flowers, a trash can and a path leading to the garage.

Of course, Goofy manages the avoid the entirety of free space in his yard and goes for the rake, stepping on it and bonking his snout with it.

You'll also notice that Goofy has a small dog house next to his garage, which is all sorts of fucked up but I suppose it's not that much weirder than Michael Jackson having a pet chimpanzee (Bubbles!) at one point.

The pet dog's name is Bowser btw, which freaked me out because if you walk near the dog house, Goofy says "hey, there's Bowser's house" and I was like wait is he talking about his neighbor, wait his name is Pete... Is there a Bowser in the Disneyverse? Is this a jab at Nintendo? But no, it's just Goofy's dog.

As Goofy gathers the film reels and unlock the actual full 1950's Goofy cartoons you can watch, he also finds items related to said toons like skis or a golf hat, finally unlocking mini-games that are cartoon-themed, like seen here as Goofy is doing a skiing slalom in his yellow and green outfit while wearing an alpine hat.

Remember ~10 years ago when game exec said solo games were dead and every game should be live service? And in 2026 the two biggest release first half of the year are Resident Evil and Tomodachi, two solo games

Look, I'm the sicko who loved the Chicken & Waffle Lay's from the 2010s, so

ROFLMAO at the pearl clutching, sanctimonious, holier than thou, virtue signallers, whining and bleating and screaming about completely irrelevant nonsense. I don't care who owns Plaion or SNK.

I only care about:

build quality
analogue output quality
100% accurate functionality and backwards compatibility
will a flashcart work?
Zero ***** given about anything else. I've got enough **** in my life to deal with without freaking out over who owns what.

You dig deep enough, you'll find 100% of everything in your life tainted by something bad. The US and British empires both got rich off slavery centuries ago, and that money paid for infrastructure we use each day. You just gotta ignore it all and carry on without even thinking about it. I never think about it.

I just hope these killjoys let the rest of us enjoy this games system in peace. And killjoy is the right word - they are literally killing the joy of everyone else.

I'm buying one. And I will aggressively rebuke anyone who criticises those who buy it.

I'm sick to death of virtuous tyrants finger wagging when anyone has some fun.

Leave us the **** alone!

... I'm sorry, but John Szczepaniak sounds like the folks who shout down trans people when we say "Hey you shouldn't buy Harry Potter shit because the creator's using their profits to eradicate trans folks"

Not buying a toy because the dude behind it is abhorrent is the lowest possible bar to clear

I thought the DOS version was pretty good. No idea why the SNES and Genesis/Mega Drive versions run as fast as they do, though. I recall poking at the ASM to make both run as close to the PAL Amiga version's speed as possible and it being quite doable, so clearly it was a deliberate choice.

So for Psycho Dream, most of the text to be translated was a boilerplate legal warning about not copying the in-universe VHS that's playing. For that I hunted down actual FBI warnings from old clamshell Disney VHS releases to use as a model for authentic legalese.

The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”

LATTICE 200EC7: Haruomi Hosono's hidden video game soundtrack The story of Haruomi Hosono's obscure contribution to video games, which has been right under our noses for decades.

Hey, did you know Haruomi Hosono scored a soundtrack for an obscure rail shooter for the PlayStation? And that the audio is fully playable if you put the game disc in your CD player? Here's the story of a hidden gem by one third Yellow Magic Orchestra. 🚀
