Denton Promised Net Zero. Then It Kept Building Roads. The booming city's transit predicament is not unique; it is a local expression of a statewide structural problem.

New from Mezabahnur Masum: "Orange barrels. Lane closures. Freshly churned earth where sidewalks used to be. We are committing more than $1B to projects that will worsen our air quality, and we are doing it while congratulating ourselves for having a climate plan."

Thanks! With the e-bike, I can go greater distances than on my regular bike, especially in the summer! And if I'm feeling too lazy to ride my regular bike (e.g. a hilly ride), then I can just hop on the e-bike instead.

An ebike next to a busy road at night.

#WeekWithoutDriving day 4! Ebiked to Bouldin Acres on S Lamar.

Riding back, encountered an impatient driver on S 5th who gave my buddy & I plenty of room but did a risky move to pass us instead of waiting 10 secs for the road to open up. Would love to get out of the road if there were bike lanes!

The inside of a bus.

#WeekWithoutDriving day 3! Took the bus to the UT area which is dense enough for me to get a flu shot, buy kitchen supplies, & get lunch all on the same block! And several buses run thru here so it's great for connections.

Looking forward to what the next phase of UNO brings to this part of town 👀

#weekwithoutdriving day 2! Biked up Rio Grande and overall pleasant ride ☀️

Good: roundabouts between 6th & 12th slow cars; protected bike lanes N of MLK ❤️

Bad: sharrows S of MLK; light at 15th doesn't turn green unless there's a car (or beg button is hit); southbound light at MLK is too short 😮‍💨

Recently renewed the lease at my apartment. My base rent went down $35 per month and I didn't even have to negotiate to get that.

This is Max. He snuck out in the middle of the night and walked 5 miles to get a breakfast burrito from a store that gave him one once. They hadn't opened yet when he got there, but Max was found the next morning thanks to his GPS collar patiently waiting outside for his well-earned snack. 14/10

The one thing Texas won’t do to save its water supply Texas property owners can use nearly as much water under their land as they want. That’s unlikely to change even as the state approaches a crisis.

Happy Housing Day from the #txlege! We met with legislators and advocates from all over the state, doing our part to unlock a future where every Texan has a safe, affordable home.

And we got to watch as HB 24, which eliminates the “tyrant’s veto,” passed the Texas House! 🥳 #HousingDayAtTheDome

The air in 12 Texas counties exceeded federal soot standards. Only four may face consequences. Critics say TCEQ is erroneously using a federal rule to exclude counties that are failing federal soot rules.

Twelve Texas counties have recently exceeded federal air quality standards for particulate matter, commonly known as soot.

But Texas environmental regulators are proposing that only four of them be required to take action to improve their air quality. www.texastribune.org/2025/01/15/t...
