My dad had a saying “You can be right, dead right.” This was mostly watching for others even though you have the right of way.

Blood moon over Pittsburgh last night. My goal on this one was to get a sharper image than my 2022 lunar eclipse shot and I think I accomplished that. Hope you enjoy.

Nicely done to get a foreground in the shot with it. Hard to shoot the moon that high in the sky with a foreground without making the moon tiny.

I shot this with a Canon EOS R5 and the Canon 100-500mm lens.

I stayed up and grabbed a few shots. Goal was to get some sharper images than the 2022 lunar eclipse. I think I did a bit better this time. As seen from Pittsburgh, Pa

I hate the time changes. Just pick standard time or DST and stick with it. It's terrible what we do to our bodies twice a year. Plus I annoy my family for a week before the time change saying the wrong time to prepare...

A little throwback to this past fall for my first Flashes post.

Quick little bit about me. My name is Matt Melbert and I am a hobbyist photographer based out to of Pittsburgh. My focus is on landscape, woodland, and astrophotography, but you may see other things pop up form me.

I am little late writing this but I wholly agree that the algorithmic complacency is a big problem. I actually believe it has enabled a breakdown of shared reality. We are surrounded by what we want to hear and no longer have shared realities which stifles communication making the problem worse.

Some animal tracks in the fallen snow. Loved how the light was filtering through the trees and cast that golden light across the snow. Anyone able to tell what kind of tracks these are? Taken in Raccoon Creek State Park.

Always gorgeous, but the footing can be a bit treacherous in spots when it’s icy out, with some nice drops into the water…..

Nice cold morning hike at Raccoon Creek State Park just as the snow was winding down. The waterfall ice had such great fragile texture like it was a giant slushy and you cools put your hand through it. I hope you enjoy the post!

Happy 2025! Here are a few photos that I took but never posted in 2024. Let me know in the comments which one is your favorite.

1. Monday night football
2. “The Tree”
3. Kayakers during the Solar Eclipse
4. Small waterfall just above the main Mineral Springs Falls

Brrrr. It was cold this past weekend but took the opportunity to run up to the top of the Duquesne Incline on Mt Washington to get some shots while it was snowing. I waited for about 20 minutes as I watched a snow band inch closer as it slowly enveloped the city. #Pittsburgh

Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a commercial office supply store where they will have used chairs you can sit in and test before you buy them. Finding the right chair is a game changer.

Appreciate the info! I figured there was too much data/detail for a single, non-tracked shot. Great work with your processing. Nicely balanced and nothing looks pushed too far.

This is a wonderful shot. Lots of detail and beautiful color. Is this a single shot or stacked, and was star tracker used?

I like to call this shot, “The Tree” I think for obvious reasons. This tree is somewhat locally famous and for good reason. I was fortunate enough to make this image while on a photography workshop in early October in the Dolly Sods area of WV, which is one of my happy places. Hope you enjoy
