Hey mid-Atlantic states (and across the center of the continental US over to Kansas and Nebraska)-- it's go time for you now! Roughly the start of the busiest three weeks of spring migration.

I'm getting a new warbler species in the yard each day, and I'm in the yellow band (not at peak yet)!

Matt’s weather rapport is always good reading. Check out these fascinating stats!

I forgot you’re also in Dux. Was thinking wbury. I’m sort of East Duxbury 😂

21° in Duxbury. I covered my garlic with straw and frost fabric… concerned about the daffs and other things!

As I was saying… April is tough. I shoveled 2-3 inches of snow off the deck this morning to feed the birds. 23°F predicted tonight and I think I will have to cover the garlic shoots in the garden. They’re hardy… but not that hardy.

Managing my elderly father’s television, phone, and online check-in for medical appts is how I spend the majority of my non-work hours lately. It’s hellish.

Taking care of elderly parents is a great way to develop a deep hatred for the modern world.

Only US Votes Against Women’s Rights Document At UN Commission - Health Policy Watch President of the UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock told the opening of CSW that the backlash against women's rights "feels as though we are forced to

For the first time in decades, consensus broke at the UN Commission on the Status of Women. The United States cast the lone “no” vote on a document aimed at improving justice systems for women and girls worldwide. Misogyny is the official policy of the US under Trump.

Another way of saying this is that the regulations would have had a cost of zero. They would not have required the power sector to do anything it wasn't going to do already.

Roberts said it would be the most expensive reg ever (because he heard that on Fox). But it cost nothing.

Agreed. The whole shebang is completely unsustainable.

There are no good Republicans. Any Vermonter who votes for him is voting to support fascism. You can excuse it any way you like but he’s a loyal Republican who gladly remains a member of an organization that has brought fascism to our country and is openly pushing a white nationalist agenda

It’s a real mess.

Lots of regressive to sort through here, incl. taxing people’s commute distance -which ties directly to housing shortage-& the ridiculous return to office push.

Also:“The committee wants to redirect $50 million in tax revenue from vehicle sales from the education fund to the transportation fund…”

Interesting… I didn’t see that. I was wondering who it was. I will go look again.

Remarkably terrible, even in the vast terrain of terrible ideas where we live now.

This is about 1/10 of the flock of evening grosbeaks who have been here longer than a month. With the volume up you’ll hear them and get a better sense of the number of them. I love them dearly but they eat too much and i wish most of them would move along now!

My completely technically incompetent elderly father asked me to buy him a printer the other day, to which I responded “Absolutely not. No.” He’s old and ill and i do want him to be happy. But adding tech support for a printer (in addition to his phone and computer) could literally end me.

A faithful, slightly slavish, yet still abstracted digital recreation of The Clash’s London Calling album cover. Featuring a guy lit by a spotlight on a stage in a very wide stance and bent over with his head down, holding an electric guitar like an axe by the neck just an instant before he smashes it into the floor. Small white type at the top reads ‘Maybe it’ll’, then down the left side in pink and the bottom in green larger block lettering reads ‘happen today’.

I don't understand. You took an oath. How is this not wholly incompatible with taking a sworn oath to defend the Constitution.

Oathbreakers. Traitors. Cowards.

My hatred of the GOP is longstanding and unshakable. Also, I will never ever forgive the Democrats for their complicity and quiescence. And that feels worse to me because I thought better of them, and they absolutely should have been better.
