There is one place, however, where Musk, with the help of his minions, achieved his goals. He did indeed shred U.S.A.I.D. Though a rump operation is now operating inside the State Department, the administration says that it has terminated more than 80 percent of U.S.A.I.D. grants. Brooke Nichols, an associate professor of global health at Boston University, has estimated that these cuts have already resulted in about 300,000 deaths, most of them of children, and will most likely lead to significantly more by the end of the year. That is what Musk’s foray into politics accomplished.

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty.

“Abolish ICE” is the moderate position. Radical is “prosecute every ICE employee under RICO.”

Repetition or clarity. Then pick it through and make a note of each point you want to keep, note repetition and work on combining / refining those into a clearer idea, then think about the ordering of it.usually by then my brain has built a better overall picture and the struggle eases.

I used to do the same thing, never a draft so much as editing as I go. I was told once, at first you're laying manure.its all shit, but out of it grows the stuff you want. If you struggle, just go free form and try to turn off your inner editor just get it all out there and don't worry about 1/...

Also, unrelatedly, the hand-wringing "men don't know what the rules are" business these people do really irritates me, because they then... enumerate the rules in a sarcastic tone of voice. You do know the rules! You just don't like them!

If you are having sex with someone and they say they want to stop, you stop. It's really not that difficult a concept

Everyone now and again I will see someone use the phrase "woke mind virus" seriously and I will wonder what it is like to be them, and to have a head full of rancid pudding where a brain is meant to be

🧵 THREAD: A federal whistleblower just dropped one of the most disturbing cybersecurity disclosures I’ve ever read.

He's saying DOGE came in, data went out, and Russians started attempting logins with new valid DOGE passwords

Media's coverage wasn't detailed enough so I dug into his testimony:

It is really bothering me (understatement) that the message is “bring back that one innocent guy” and not “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK SHUT DOWN THIS WHOLE OPERATION IMMEDIATELY.”

Weird* how all those people who said we NEEDED an armed society to prevent tyranny even though our kids were dying barricaded behind desks are now all in favor of tyranny.

*extremely predictable

This doesn't surprise me. Sociological research shows that discounting of girls' competence and commitment--and celebration of (especially White) boys' brilliance--starts in K-12 schools and ramps up in college/grad school. Girls see how they're treated and reasonably assume it won't get better.

No he's not. Giving in implies that he doesn't want to do this stuff.

He doesn't have to do this at all, it's deeply unpopular, he just wants to.

He not giving in to the Far Right; he's Explicitly doing policies that alienate his base and party in order to appeal to fascists.

He IS Far Right.

I have the same thing. AuDHD, severe PDA and time blindness. Stuff would pile up around where I sat working and I often couldn't do anything about it or even notice it or how long. One comment that it distressed my partner and Brain just flipped and clearing it up was a new law, like gravity.

I don't particularly care--nor should the Democrats--whether or not protecting trans people is popular in the heartland. Even if it alienates the "moderates," it's the right thing to do, and the Democrats should make every effort to do it. Sometimes what the people need is to be led and not lead.

Covid Just Killed The Last Man Living In An Iron Lung Paul Alexander, the last man on Earth living in an iron lung after surviving polio as a child, was just killed by covid.

Once upon a time, many children lived in iron lungs due to polio. Vaccines eradicated it

Public health matters. When you shake confidence in public health, people die

The last man living in an iron lung was killed by Covid when a carer refused to mask

This is where anti-science rhetoric leads

The founder of Signal releases a response to SignalGate:

“There are so many great reasons to be on Signal.

Now including the opportunity for the vice president of the United States of America to randomly add you to a group chat for coordination of sensitive military operations.”

Screenshot of the Atlantic Signal exchanges, including Michael Waltz saying "the first target - their top missile guy - we had positive ID of him walking into his girlfriend's building and it's now collapsed".

Not to be a wide-eyed naïf about such things but... am I right in thinking that they levelled an entire building to get to one guy and *that* is not controversial to anyone in the American media or political class, only that this information was recklessly shared in an unsecured chat?

Most neurotypical people find it hard to understand or empathise with the neurodivergent mind. Whereas many of us have been running a neurotypical emulator for years. It crashes occasionally. Different instruction sets.

Rachel Reeves is all about growth. So why won’t she admit that Brexit is its worst enemy? | Polly Toynbee Our exit from the EU won’t be a focus of the spring statement, but it should be. Most now accept the need for closer ties, writes Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

🔴Labour is so paralysed by Brexit that, despite its hunt for growth, it won’t mention vast sums lost.

🔴CER estimates Brexit has cost the UK 5% of GDP—£128bn. Goldman Sachs agrees.

🔴LSE found £27bn lost in exports in just two years.

🔴OBR says trade is down 15%.
