If anyone needs a cute house, my friends are (sadly) moving to Chicago and their BR house is on the market.

The kids are alright: youtu.be/A-vMYeoZGog?...
Wait - hang on... I meant that I'll get claude to do it.
I mean why not? I'll work on that!
A partial list of bird taxa also have pop-gen data.
For Aves - here's a partial list. Many taxa have good genomes but not more than 30 individuals of WGS data. The total is pretty small - 18 taxa with > 30 individuals WGS data in an SRA project.
And this was only using Sonnet 4.6...
In about an hour using Claude Code (see disclaimer in repo) I put together code to do something that is a pain in the ass to do manually - find a good genome in NCBI then see what decent population level WGS data exist for that genome assembly in NCBI SRA: github.com/brantfairclo.... I'm impressed.
The image is split into two sections. The left side features a quote on funding priorities by Sudip S. Parikh, AAAS CEO, with a small photo of the person below. The U.S. Capitol building is in the background. The right side shows a bar chart titled "Federal R&D FY26 + FY27 Appropriations in Billions." It compares requested and enacted funding amounts for NIH, NSF, DOE, and NASA in 2026 and 2027. Bars are color-coded to distinguish between 2026 requests, 2027 requests, and 2026 enacted law.
The U.S. administration released the FY 2027 Budget Request this morning, proposing deep cuts to science funding once again. While there are similarities in the proposed cuts between FY26 and FY27, the final FY26 appropriations show the impact of advocacy in action.
A gentle reminder that there is less than a month to get in ASIH Raney Fund applications. Get up to $1,000 for your fishy research!
This is a pretty cool (short) story about a Chilean copepod that we've been working on with @invertevoeco.bsky.social and her lab... turns out, after doing some sequencing, it looks a lot like a new species.
Are you a graduate student who is a member of ASIH and studying fishy things? Looking for research funds? Consider applying to the Raney Fund, which awards up to $1,000 for research, field or travel purposes. The deadline to apply is April 30th! More info here:

This is awesome. Thank you very much - I have always preferred FigTree to other alternatives, so super happy to have a replacement! 👏
Just a couple, though.
Know an undergrad who is interested in exhibit design and development? The NHMLA is now seeking applicants for a Getty Marrow Intern, which is a 10-week summer internship program working with our exhibits department. Please share with those interested!

haha - I always get the same. happy to see you have a California Quail in there!
Here's another one... offers "interactive visualisation of polarised genomes, hybrid indices, clines and ternary plots". Slick! 👏
This looks cool. And, an up-to-date package for generating haplotype networks is very welcome.
Perfection at its finest. 🤌

Does it open up a portal to another dimension? A better one?
It harkens back to the worst of days. Like when I had dysentery. Oh no…. here comes BioPerl… Guess I’ll suffer for a day to two.
If you get on Zoom, Teams, Facetime, Slack, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Discord video chat all at the same time, what happens?
It's hard to dislike something work-related more than I dislike BioPerl. But then I find myself in a white-hot rage because it's taking all day to install some random Bioconductor package.
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
