Hell Is Empty - Lightspeed Magazine And all the devils are here. “What’s that from?” Millie asks as she gets her coat. I stand at the back window, looking out. Usually, you can see the downtown skyline from this position. Today, it’s just the hellmouth. A long tube that looks like an esophagus that’s been yanked out of a kaiju and dangles from the ground. Bloody, meaty, smoking.

New story day.

This story was deeply personal. It gave me the courage to keep resisting.

Thank you @lightspeedmagazine.com for publishing this story.

The reason Moby Dick is the most American novel ever written is because it is about a violent white man enacting a confusing revenge fantasy against a cheap source of oil.

Available today -- my story, "Tatterdemalion" -- a folktale from a totalitarian fantasy world that of course has nothing to do or any connection at all with current events in any way, just good ol harmless escapism yes sir

Hugo noms close Saturday! As you're casting your ballots, I'd be honored if you considered my debut collection. While there's no Best Collection category for the Hugos, a number of individual works in Tell Me Yours (+ others I pubbed in 2025) are eligible in the Novelette and Short Story categories.

the cover of sublimation by isabel j kim. two women emerge from a black line down the middle of a sunset colored cover. coming june 2 2026

SUBLIMATION by Isabel J Kim. Doppelgangers, corporate intrigue, heartbreak, betrayal, and the harsh permanence of the border: Sublimation is a thrilling and provocative debut for fans of Severance that asks what you'd sacrifice for a different life from award winning author Isabel J Kim
The border cuts you in two.

When you immigrate, you leave a copy of yourself behind. One person enters their new country, the other stays trapped at home.

Some instances keep in touch, call each other daily, keep their lives and minds in sync in the hopes of reintegrating and resuming a life as one person. Others, like Soyoung Rose Kang, leave home at ten years old and never speak to their other selves again. Rose, in America, never imagined going back to Korea until her grandfather died and her Korean instance called her home for the funeral.

She doesn’t know that Soyoung plans to steal her body and her life.

How far would you go to live the choice you didn’t make?
