The clip of Dan Levy being confronted by Mr Blobby is still making me giggle ten minutes after watching it
Top: A screen shot from the Strange new Worlds season 2 episode 'Ad Astra per Aspera' Bottom: The same, in which I have cloned out the SNW Enterprise and put in my own render of the Hunter G Enterprise model. The lighting is generally a little brighter.
One of the first things I wanted to try with the model was recreating a shot from Strange New Worlds. I'm obviously no VFX pro, but this is a fair representation of how I would prefer the SNW space shots to look: Lighter hulls, crisper lighting, basically.
"Mirror, Mirror" works because Kirk looks straight into the camera and says "all tryannies must, can, and will be overthrown."
Also worth remembering that the TOS and DS9 Mirror Universe was carried by the load bearing prime universe characters repeatedly telling everyone how fucked the whole thing is
writers live in Brooklyn and write what they know
multiverses can work as isolated alternates or one-shots, they are a terrible idea to introduce to a franchise because they come to dominate the franchise
This has reminded me that the most telling difference between being the UK and in NA (Canada) for me is that despite all the ways in the UK we don't do summer well, there is a great deal of public shade
This feels like a flashback to the worst of the 2000s. All the 'edgy' young misogynists from back then are now in their 40s and 50s and have podcasts.
What gets me is not that they disappointed me, that's politics, it's that they have done so in the exact same manner as the last lot. It is also so frustratingly, obviously, avoidable.
Sadly it's from back on Twitter so I can't quote myself, but as someone who wasn't enthusiastic about Labour I nevertheless took the view that at least they are not so enmeshed in scandal and radicalised on immigration that they have given up on governance it is grating to see them implode like this
Play testing my ACW rules tmw with @badsocialism.bsky.social & a bigger version Sunday with @iainf.bsky.social, Ru Lane & Nick Denning.

Looking forwad to these games so we can really test the rules out vs historical outcomes

Everyone involved in this should be sacked.
I'll wait 6 years for the National Theatre production that takes the bold decision to not cast anyone as Starmer, simply having him as an empty chair in centre stage that everyone has to act around.
whether the holodomor was a genocide or not is actually something i would describe as "incredibly beside the point"
I think accelerated careers due to Brexit is the much more plausible explanation, especially as the UK's peer democracies do not seem to be afflicted in the same way
Fascinated as to Mahmood's theory of 'how minority politicians succeed in democracies'.

regimes are going through the historical record and airbrushing minions next to their enemies to prove that they were right to purge/overthrow them
โFree Rudolf Hess, The Peace Pilot. For proposing Peace he is in Prison for over 25 yrs. Why?โ Stamp on letter to Spiro Agnew
he had letters saved with stamps saying โfree rudolf hessโ
"In America today we have a party of ordinary governance and a personality cult party. Those are the two options we are now offered every general election, and it really is that simple." www.liberalcurrents.com/vote-blue-no...
women next to me at the cafe discussing a European couple they know who moved to London and hired a schools consultant (?) who advised them on what neighbourhood to buy a house in so their kids could get into the best state school, so I reckon that we actually could tax high earners a bit more tbh
Think it's also funny* this is happening while certain MPs go "Gambling? All part of good honest working-class fun! Can't interfere with that".
Again, from freebiegate, to Mandleson, to Doyle just a consistent theme of behaviour that would be unacceptable and, frankly, result in a disciplinary in the private sector is just normalised in parliament.
A real, persistent problem for our politics that it is so endemic and normalised.
My kingdom for a left-wing PM willing to fight public health busybodies. (Lowkey I think this would be a good way to do left-populism without demonising immigrants or making unrealistic tax promises)
Once again this is why a world that just rejects data for not feeling true is a world where leftism is dead. Crime is extremely low! But so many people are like "we have so much crime!" And then go right wing over it. Remember this when you're Discoursing.
Just in case you have a spare 45 minutes and you missed this at Saluteโฆ I was on a panel talking about terrain, battlefields and wargaming.

Watch a few Hobby Heroes expounding on terrain matters ๐
Just occurred to me that Star Trek: The Next Generation would not have survived past its first season in this business environment
