I enjoyed Bob Odenkirk's latest Derek-Kolstad-scripted action joint NORMAL, directed by Ben Wheatley. Odenkirk plays the interim sheriff in a small Minnesota town who's unable to ignore some serious shit going down.
Max is a great writer and you should be reading his stuff.

I could have gone so much deeper on the film, especially with this nugget I had to cut about 9/11 that came late in the editing process, but alas.
If nothing else I hope the detractors can see a kernel of the ideas I posit with this piece and revisit the film with fresh eyes.

Watching it I think it's the not-too-distant cousin of HOT FUZZ, in that they make for a fun little Double together.
It's a solid effort that utilizes Odenkirk's "everyman" status to great effect with a good stable of strong actors to make the ensuing small town hijinks pop.
Before we get recording, here's some brief thoughts on NORMAL (2026):
It's a blast.
A Neo-noir western with some dark British comedic hijinks. Gag deaths abound.
Good couple of shootouts with Bob Odenkirk and Peter Shinkoda getting a nice little scrappy finale fight.
Knowing how much Max loves this movie, I'm delighted somewhere let him write about it. Guarantee its some great stuff too
